Job Summary
Serves as a key contributor in the day-to-day operations of the Sales Tax Department in providing sales tax and accounting functions. Exercises independent judgement and discretion in planning and carrying out the details of work procedures and methods regarding the financial integrity of the company. Is a key player in the sales tax audits. Researches and interprets tax regulations and identifies potential improvements to sales tax processes. Serves as a subject matter expert of sales and use tax regulations for the organization.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
•Prepares and reviews monthly sales tax returns and remits sales tax to the appropriate state Revenue Departments.
•Researches and interprets state sales tax statues and contacts state sales tax agencies in order to provide answers on sales tax policy questions posed by customers, corporate departments and branch employees.
•Adjusts sales taxes on customer invoices when appropriate.
•Notifies customers when exemption certificates are needed and maintains customer exemption certificates.
•Serves as a liaison between the company and our services providers (both internal and external) to reach resolution on SAP, Vertex and LCRDixon system issues. Submits incidents and claims and drives resolution of issues to include testing.
•Acts as Team Lead for sales tax audits as assigned by manager.
•Performs month end reporting and reconciliation from SAP and Vertex for team to use when performing sales and use tax compliance reporting.
•Researches Accounts Payable purchase invoices, creates Journal Entry and reconciles sales tax liability account. This includes monthly review of fixed assets and working as contact to FA for fixed asset issues.
•Conducts internal audit on A/P assessed sales tax.
•Compiles figures for Internal Consumption, Manual Use Tax and U1 AP assessed sales tax for monthly Journal Entry.
•Assists leadership in mergers and acquisitions (due diligence, setup) and assists with the transaction and post-closing reconciliations.
•Assists manager with requested monthly metrics reporting as assigned in order to address issues that require branch education of sales and use tax.
•Maintains accurate process descriptions and creates SOPs/documentation of processes.
•Investigates and resolves audit findings and issues of non-compliance.
•Maintains, prepares, and submits payment for annual sales tax licenses that are due.
Non-essential Functions
•Assists with sales tax training to internal stakeholders as identified by manager.
•Responsible for education and training of branch and corporate department personnel on sales and use tax issues.
•Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
•Minimum of a four-year accounting, finance or business administration degree.
•Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or related experience.
•Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar designation preferred.
•Prefer strong working knowledge of PC Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint), Internet, Email and SAP software preferred.
•Vertex O Series Cortication preferred.
