Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) Rare Earth Element Division has an opening for a Senior Piping Engineering Technologist who will provide piping system design and drafting for SRC’s Rare Earth Processing Facility.
Accountabilities
•Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop piping system designs based on general engineering information and project documents.
•Mentor junior designers and provide technical leadership within the design team.
•Prepare 3D models and drawings including, but not limited to, piping layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics and fabrication drawings, ensuring high accuracy and quick turnaround times
•Generate material take off (MTO) reports.
•Review designs for accuracy, completeness and compliance with specifications; modify designs as necessary based on feedback from engineers.
•Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of piping designs, focusing on quick clash detection and resolution
•Support engineering efforts with design concepts, equipment specifications and procurement activities.
•Perform on-site measurements to support equipment design and integration and to create as-built drawings.
•Provide timely support during the construction phase, including responding to inquiries, reviewing shop drawings and resolving design-related issues to minimize delays.
Qualifications
•Diploma in mechanical engineering technology or engineering design and drafting technology.
•Candidates will have or will immediately obtain and maintain registration with Technology Professional Saskatchewan (TPS)
•8-10 years of relevant experience working in piping design, with accurate 3D modelling, clash resolution, and delivering on-time designs, preferably in industrial or engineering consulting environments.
Skills
•Proven proficiency in Plant 3D and AutoCAD for piping design and modeling, with a strong ability to quickly resolve design clashes and deliver high-quality designs efficiently.
•Strong understanding of piping materials, fittings and components
•Experience working on capital projects involving process equipment is an asset
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
•Mechanical aptitude with practical design experience.
•Ability to multitask, prioritize and work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of design quality.
The chosen candidate will also be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
