Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Technician plays a key role in supporting the design, integration, and deployment of the Quaise MMW Drilling System. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and field operations to assemble and integrate millimeter-wave (MMW) sources, power supplies, pumps, compressors, and related equipment into a cohesive field-ready rig configuration. Leveraging strong hands-on experience with mechanical systems and complex equipment, the Senior Mechanical Technician provides technical expertise, troubleshooting support, and practical recommendations that advance the development of waveguides, gyrotrons, and other MMW technologies.

- Enhance product development, focusing on manufacturability, maintainability, and safety.
- Build assemblies, conduct laboratory evaluations, and perform field-testing.
- Work with Facility and Project Managers to ensure proper maintenance, safety, and security of Quaise facilities.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and productivity in the workplace.
- Construct and test prototypes to evaluate subsystems and new designs.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals; maintain detailed records of work performed.
- Provide feedback to the engineering team to enhance designs for functionality, assembly, and manufacturability.
- Manage orders of third-party equipment, including supplier identification and selection.
- Perform facility-related tasks such as installing machinery, moving equipment, and maintaining the facility.
- Assemble, install, and maintain mechanical systems, machinery, and components based on engineering drawings and specifications.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and conduct routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Conduct performance tests, inspections, and adjustments on mechanical systems to ensure compliance with standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Skilled in complex assemblies and proficient with hand, power tools, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Experienced in using manual mills, lathes, drill presses, welding, and soldering techniques.
- Capable of installing basic electrical circuits (wiring, outlets, controls).
- Preferred experience with downhole tools and familiarity with automotive equipment or similar machinery.
- Skilled in maintaining mechanical systems, equipment, and machinery.
- Experienced in inspecting and overseeing work done by external vendors or contractors.
- Knowledgeable in health, safety, and environment practices, with the ability to employ safe working practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop practical solutions.
- Commitment to delivering quality results with a meticulous and conscientious approach to their responsibilities. This includes accountability for the outcomes of their tasks and showing dedication to continuous improvement and excellence in their role.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact well with customers and co-workers, in the field and the office.
- High school diploma or associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in a mechanical technician role, preferably within the engineering or manufacturing industry (new product development)
- Certification in mechanical systems or related areas preferred.
- OSHA or other workplace safety certifications preferred.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, as well as use hands to feel, reach, grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools and/or controls.
- The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer, or move items up 50 pounds at times for departmental needs.
- Ability to move from one worksite to another to complete tasks.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and manual labor.
- Comfort working in various environments, including confined spaces and elevated areas.
- The vision requirement includes reviewing written and electronic materials in digital and physical format as well as inspecting and working with small parts.
- The hearing requirement includes the ability to hear alarms, instructions, and other sounds for safe and effective performance.
