Mechanical Technician

Opportunity Overview:

Mechanical Technician position based in Los Angeles, CA. This is a 1-year contract position. (W-2)

You will be responsible for rail vehicle rehabilitation performs repairs, maintenance, and inspections on rail cars, including structural, mechanical, and electrical systems.

You will report to the onsite Manager.

Main responsibilities include troubleshooting, using hand and power tools, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You will have a understanding of mechanical operations and electrical systems, as detailed in job descriptions and training programs on sites.

Repair and installation on rail cars according to engineering instructions.

Disassembly and reassembly of rail car components and devices.

Information gathering such as photos, measurements (using multimeter, megger)

Your Day-to-Day:

- Inspections: Conduct regular and detailed inspections of structural components, car roofs, and other parts to identify problems or damage.

- Repair: Perform heavy repairs on a variety of systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural components.

- Maintenance: Complete scheduled maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and their components to ensure functionality.

- Component replacement: Replace defective parts, such as wiring, insulation, hardware, and glass.

- System testing: Test electrical systems using diagnostic equipment to ensure functioning.

- Safety compliance: Ensure all work follows railroad rules, regulations, and safety standards, such as those set by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

- Tool and equipment use: Use a range of hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment to perform tasks.

Who You Are:

- Education: A high school diploma or GED

- Experience: Relevant experience in rail transit vehicle maintenance or manufacturing is often a requirement.

- Technical knowledge: An understanding of mechanical operations, electrical systems, and hydraulics is necessary .

- Troubleshoot issues and solve work-related problems is necessary.
