Summary
Provides enterprise-wide leadership in shaping and implementing SRP’s future nuclear generation strategy. Responsible for leading cross-functional teams and external partners to mitigate risks and advance key initiatives, including the pursuit of an Early Site Permit (ESP) from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Drives strategic alignment across departments, oversees critical milestones such as site selection and permitting, and cultivates high-impact partnerships with other utilities and nuclear technology companies to position SRP as a leader in next-generation nuclear energy.
What You'll Do
•Enterprise Program Leadership: Leads the implementation of SRP’s New Nuclear Plan, ensuring integration across enterprise functions including resource planning, generation and transmission, workforce development, financial planning, legal, public affairs, environmental, community outreach, customer operations, land, water, and others.
•Strategic Roadmap Oversight: Oversees the evolution of SRP’s New Nuclear Roadmap, ensuring it remains responsive to internal priorities and external developments in the nuclear sector.
•Cross-functional coordination: Facilitates alignment and prioritization across internal departments and external consultants, ensuring cohesive execution of nuclear program initiatives.
•Governance and Leadership Development: Establishes and manages governance frameworks with potential partners, ensuring clarity in roles, responsibilities, and decision-making process.
•Collaborative Site Strategy: Leads joint efforts with potential partners to complete site assessments, commercial evaluations, and deployment strategies, ensuring alignment with SRP’s long-term goals.
•Program Integration and Oversight: In coordination with other teams, executes complex, multi-disciplinary activities including stakeholder engagement, regulatory strategy, environmental permitting, communications, and technology monitoring.
•Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance: Leads the development of a nuclear Quality Assurance Program in compliance with NRC regulations and industry best practices.
•Industry Engagement and Intelligence: Builds and maintains strategic relationships with reactor developers, industry leaders, and advisory groups to ensure SRP remains at the forefront of nuclear innovation.
•Executive Communication: Prepares and presents strategic recommendations and program updates to executive leadership, the SRP Board, and external stakeholders, supporting decisions with enterprise-level impact.
•Information Governance: Leads the development of a comprehensive Information Management policy for nuclear-related documentation, ensuring compliance all applicable standards.
•Team Development: Champions the growth and development of team members, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with SRP’s mission, vision, and values.
•Financial Stewardship: Oversees capital and O&M budgets, ensuring responsible allocation of resources to support program success.
What It Takes To Succeed
•This position requires a strategic leader with an understanding of the processes involved in early development work for a nuclear power plant. The successful execution of these long-lead, high impact resource development initiatives is critical to ensuring SRP is well positioned to meet future reliability needs and transition to a net-zero carbon future. The energy resources under this role’s purview will typically represent investments ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of dollars.
•As a senior management role, this position carries significant enterprise-level responsibility and visibility, with direct influence on SRP’s strategic direction. It involves close collaboration with executive leadership, the SRP Board, and external stakeholders, and plays a key role in shaping decisions that carry substantial reputational, political, and financial implications for the organization.
•The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational management skills. They must be adept at building relationships, communicating effectively across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. A commitment to integrity, accountability, and SRP’s values of customer service, empowerment, and inclusive decision-making is essential.
Experience
A minimum of eight years of related experience is required (if no degree, 12 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 12 years).
Specific experience in nuclear asset development is preferred.
Education
A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
