Summary

A Senior Helicopter Pilot at SRP provides expert rotor-wing flight operations. This role involves both professional piloting of SRP helicopters and performing non-flying duties essential for the flight department’s success. The position demands extensive experience and knowledge in helicopter operations, along with the ability to quickly learn new aviation skills.


What You'll Do

- Serve as a highly competent Pilot-In-Command (PIC) for SRP’s fleet of 3 multi-engine helicopters (Bell 429, Bell 212, Bell 412).

- Fly diverse missions such as powerline patrol, construction, wildlife surveys, water measurement, snow surveys, communication site support, crew hauls, Lidar mapping, watershed tours, corporate/VIP transport, and external loads.

- Operate in complex airspace (Phoenix metro area) and remote/desolate mountain and desert sites across Arizona.

- Perform takeoffs and landings from urban helipads, pinnacles, confined areas, floating helipads, and unprepared landing zones.

- Handle high-density altitudes, brown out/white out conditions, and operate day, night, and with Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

- Train non-flight department SRP employees in helicopter flight safety and crew resource management.

- Ground handle, load, and refuel helicopters as needed.

- Perform non-flying tasks assigned by the flight department manager to ensure the department’s success.


What It Takes To Succeed

- Extensive expertise in helicopter flight operations, typically with a minimum of 10 years of full-time professional experience and 3,500 hours of helicopter PIC flight time.

- Exercise independent decision-making skills and self-dispatch capabilities within SRP safety management systems and SOPs.

- Ability to integrate and communicate with SRP employee teams from diverse backgrounds, including union trade workers, engineers, environmental groups, and corporate executives.

- Develop and present training materials for safe helicopter flight operations.

- Willingness to work in high-risk flight operations, such as powerline patrols, external loads, helicopter hoisting, and NVG flights.

- Availability for flexible work hours and overtime shifts.

- Maintain an FAA class II flight physical and a lifestyle conducive to safe flight operations.

- Participate in annual offsite recurrent training for each helicopter and engage in continuous education to maintain professional aviation expertise and accomplish SRP corporate goals. Complete all required corporate training.

- Maintain IT knowledge and skills to effectively use SRP-required software, computers, and other equipment.

- Know when to cancel or modify a flight if a safe outcome is not assured, and communicate this decision effectively to co-workers, assisting them in developing new plans.


Experience

- Preferred: Minimum of 3,500 hours of turbine helicopter PIC time.

- Preferred: ATP certification.

- Preferred: 100 hours of multi engine turbine time

- Preferred: 250 hours of night or NVG time.

- Required: Commercial Rotorcraft License with instrument rating.

- Required: Precision vertical reference long line (VRLL) and human external cargo (HEC) experience


Education


High School, GED or Equivalent.
