Sr. Geologist, Calgary, AB
Reporting directly to the Manager, Geoscience, the Sr. Geologist plays a key role in unlocking and optimizing resource development of MEG’s SAGD assets. As a member of the subsurface team, you will work closely with the Geophysics, Reservoir, Production, Drilling, and Development teams, collectively contributing to drive MEG’s success. At MEG, the Geologist role is exceptionally well rounded. In this role you will be engaged in continued exploration of our top tier asset(s), working closely with the Reservoir and Production engineers to enhance production of new and existing SAGD patterns, then applying those learnings to plan and execute future development.
How you will contribute to MEG’s success:
•Explore, map, and characterize pertinent geological formations and thief zones to form geological basis for SAGD development
•Evaluate and recommend future development options leveraging geological interpretations and reservoir performance data
•Plan, design and supervise (in a geologic sense) the drilling of SAGD wells, infills, redrills, core holes, source and disposal water wells
•Work as part of an area-team to optimize asset performance; contribute geological knowledge and insights to inform opportunity identification and execution
•Contribute to long-term forecasting & performance predictions for existing and future wells
•Support annual winter program scope definition, execution support and technical lookbacks
•Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to advance new pattern planning, technical sanctions, pad reviews, pattern retirement planning and reserve analysis
•Build and/or maintain geological mapping, datasets and models
•Support subsurface regulatory applications and competitor analysis
What you will bring to MEG:
•10+ years of progressive experience with a strong focus in SAGD planning and operations
•Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience
•Solid understanding of Western Canadian Sedimentary basin, Athabasca oil sands and the McMurray formation in particular
•Active status and in good standing as a Professional Geologist with APEGA
•Proficient with geoScout and Petrel, familiarity with Seisware, Petra an asset
•Experience with data science software (such as Tableau) and geomodelling also assets
•Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical findings into actionable insights
•Initiative, curiosity, and drive to be a self-starter; takes ownership and can lead projects/ideas with minimal supervision
•Proven performance and track record of collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams and driving change and continuous improvement
•Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
