About The Role
As a Principal Geologist at Durin you will lead advanced geological analysis and strategic exploration for our next-generation drilling programs. You will guide how we interpret subsurface data, improve drill performance, and discover valuable mineral resources through geological modeling and hands-on field verification.
Key Responsibilities
•Conduct in-depth geological studies by interpreting core samples, geophysical data, and drilling logs to characterize rock formations and resource potential
•Collaborate with engineering teams to refine drill designs, automation algorithms, and drilling parameters for greater speed, core recovery, and cost-efficiency
•Assess rock stability, stress regimes, and hazards to recommend mitigation strategies that reduce drillbit wear and enhance penetration rates in various rock conditions
•Oversee field campaigns, logging operations, and sampling programs, validating geological models and providing real-time feedback on drilling performance
•Partner with software & data engineering to incorporate geological insights into sensor platforms, edge computing algorithms, and real-time data analysis
•Synthesize drilling results, core analyses, and remote sensing data to inform resource estimates, reservoir potential, and future exploration strategies
•Produce high-quality technical documentation, ensuring geological data and interpretations meet company standards and regulatory requirements
Competencies
•Master’s or PhD in Geology, Geosciences, or a related field, with extensive industry experience (mining, oil & gas, or mineral exploration preferred)
•Proven track record using advanced modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Petrel) and interpreting geophysical/geochemical data sets
•Deep understanding of rock properties, stress fields, and failure modes under drilling loads, with hands-on experience optimizing drill performance
•Demonstrated ability to design and execute field programs in remote and rugged environments, comfortable leading on-site teams and troubleshooting real-time issues
•Comfortable working with mechanical, robotics, and data-focused teams, translating geological findings into actionable engineering insights
•Familiarity with relevant mining or drilling regulations, industry standards for safety, sampling, and resource reporting
•Desire to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance resource discovery and drilling efficiency, with the ability to think creatively in a fast-paced environment
