Kano Consultants provides consulting services to the electric power industry. We provide engineering assessments, design, construction/maintenance support, and data analytics for departments that include power generation, substation, transmission, and distribution.

Job Description Summary

We are looking for a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer with expertise in electrical substation design, protection, and control systems.

This position will support our clients with system studies, development of construction drawings, and project engineering support for medium and high voltage applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

•

Lead the Engineering and Design process for substation projects from scoping through construction.

•

Develop and review substation indoor and outdoor electrical designs, including single lines, arrangements, grounding, and protection & control.

•

Coordinate design activities across disciplines and ensure deliverables meet project scope, schedule, and budget.

•

Support procurement, construction, and commissioning.

•

Serve as the technical point of contact between clients, vendors, and internal teams.

•

Maintain accurate documentation and provide regular project updates to stakeholders.

•

Review manufacturer specifications and advise clients on project scoping.

•

Perform protection coordination studies for transmission lines, substation transformers, and generators.

•

Ensure compliance with applicable standards.

•

Develop training for new engineers.

Job Qualifications Education

•

BS in Electrical Engineering, MS preferred

•

Professional Engineers License

•

5 years of work experience in substation or protection engineering

•

Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

Software Requirements

•

Strong knowledge of PC skills

•

Strong knowledge of MS products: Excel and Word

Work Location

•

Hybrid - 50% of this job can be done remotely but the other 50% will require commuting to the office in Pleasanton or a client facility in Northern California
