Position Overview:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Motiva, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of high-voltage electrical systems across refinery operations. You will provide expert technical support, manage electrical system integrity, and support the integration of power systems with process automation. Your focus will include equipment design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and adherence to industry standards, regulatory compliance, and company engineering practices.
Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support for high-voltage and medium-voltage power systems across operational areas, including substations, switchgear, and motor control centers.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical issues and provide technical assurance for electrical reliability and performance.
- Support and coordinate the integration of electrical systems with instrumentation and process control systems.
- Conduct hazard assessments, electrical safety audits, and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform Management of Change (MOC) reviews to ensure safe and effective modifications to electrical systems.
- Lead or support the development and review of electrical specifications, design packages, and technical standards.
- Evaluate and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, API).
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for electrical incidents and system failures.
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure engineering deliverables meet technical, safety, and operational standards.
- Contribute to energy efficiency initiatives and power system optimization efforts to improve cost-effectiveness and environmental performance.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. - 15+ years of experience in electrical power systems engineering in a refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power distribution systems and associated equipment.
- Experience with electrical system protection, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, and grounding practices.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, API, NESC).
- Demonstrated ability to assess risk and implement safety best practices in electrical design and field work.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
- Experience with electrical modeling software (e.g., ETAP, SKM).
- Familiarity with refinery process integration and control system interfaces.
- Knowledge of SAP or other CMMS platforms for managing electrical maintenance and inspections.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills in cross-functional teams.
