Juno Engineering Canada Inc. (Juno) is an EPC consulting firm specializing in electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EIC) solutions for industrial energy facilities across Western Canada. We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to support the development, coordination, and quality of E&I drawing deliverables produced by our internal design and drafting team.
In this full-time role, you will serve as a senior technologist responsible for producing and coordinating construction-ready E&I drawings in alignment with the Engineer of Record’s (EOR) design requirements. You will play a key role in guiding drafting efforts, ensuring consistency and accuracy, and supporting project delivery through your technical expertise.
1. Own the complete suite of E&I drawings for each project—including single‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable & tray routing plans, grounding & lighting layouts, heat‑trace details, instrument loop diagrams, hookup sheets, junction‑box schedules, control‑panel GAs, and other circuit drawings.
2. Develop and maintain the drawing index, title‑block metadata, and document‑control register; coordinate revision sequencing with the Document Controller.
3. Translate redlines, mark‑ups, and design calculations from discipline engineers and the EOR into constructible, code‑compliant drawings.
4. Lead multidisciplinary model & drawing reviews (30/60/90 % and IFC) focusing on drawing clarity, clash resolution, and constructability.
5. Integrate inputs from process, mechanical, civil/structural, and automation teams into cohesive E&I drawing sets.
1. Establish Juno’s design standards, symbol libraries, and annotation practices across AutoCAD Electrical and 3‑D raceway modelling platforms.
2. Perform thorough drawing checks and sign‑offs prior to Issued‑for‑Review (IFR), Issued‑for‑Approval (IFA), and Issued‑for‑Construction (IFC) submissions.
3. Implement continuous improvement of drafting templates, automated report generation (e.g., cable schedules, loop lists), and drawing production workflows.
4. Manage as‑built drawing updates during construction and turnover.
1. Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance and training to designers, drafters, and co‑op students, fostering a culture of accuracy and attention to detail.
2. Delegate work packages, set priorities, and review output for adherence to standards and project requirements.
3. Champion knowledge‑sharing sessions on code changes (CEC Part I, ISA standards, IEC 60079) and best‑practice detailing techniques.
1. Work closely with project engineers to clarify design assumptions, cable sizing, load lists, and hazardous‑area requirements.
2. Support construction teams by rapidly issuing field clarification sketches and incorporating site mark‑ups.
3. Participate in model walk‑downs, verifications, and plant tie‑in surveys to capture existing conditions accurately.
1. Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology diploma (T‑level) or equivalent journeyperson drafting qualification.
2. 10 + years of industrial E&I design and drafting experience on energy‑sector projects, with at least 5 years leading drawing production teams.3. Eligible for registration as a C.E.T. (ASET) or P.Tech.(Eng.) / P.L.(Eng.) in Alberta.
1. Demonstrated experience working under—and accountable to—an Engineer of Record for drawing authentication.
2. Deep understanding of CEC Part I, CSA C22.2 standards, ISA instrumentation symbology, and IEC 60079 or API 505 hazardous‑area classification documents.
3. Proven ability to produce:
4. Single‑line up to 5 kV & grounding diagrams
5. Detailed wiring and termination diagrams for MCCs, VFDs, PLC/DCS panels
6. Instrument loop drawings, hookup sheets, and junction‑box termination plans
7. 3‑D cable‑tray models with clash detection and bill of materials
8. SR & MI Electrical trace‑heating circuit layouts, schedules, and isometric drawings
1. Exceptional attention to detail and zero‑defect mindset.
2. Clear communication and ability to explain design concepts to junior team members.
3. Strong organizational skills for simultaneous multi‑project workloads.
4. Alignment with Juno’s values: safety, indigenous inclusion, technical excellence, and environmental responsibility.
1. Calgary‑based hybrid role (minimum 2 days/week in office).
2. Field/site verification trips up to 10 % (occasionally remote, fly‑in/fly‑out).
3. Must safely navigate industrial environments and wear required PPE.
1. Competitive salary commensurate with senior technical lead roles.
2. Performance bonus and company deferred profit‑sharing plan (RRSP Matching).
3. Comprehensive health & dental plan,
4. Paid professional dues, continuing‑education support, and negotiable compressed work schedule.
