We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer
to support key infrastructure projects and power system upgrades across the U.S. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing and analyzing electrical power systems for high-voltage substations. You’ll create drawing packages, perform modeling and relay settings, and provide direct support for field installations. What You’ll Do
- Provide electrical power system design and analysis for substation equipment
- Create specifications for switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, circuit breakers, and related equipment
- Perform arc flash hazard studies, short-circuit calculations, and coordination analysis
- Design installation packages and drawings for substation upgrades and relay replacements
- Develop relay settings for both electromechanical and digital relays
- Design control circuits for breakers, transformers, and other substation devices
- Analyze power quality and event capture data to recommend solutions
- Review customer power systems and provide recommendations for upgrades or improvements
- Travel to job sites to collect field data and support installations or commissioning
- Understand system hazards and follow strict electrical safety procedures- 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering, preferably in substation protection and control design
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems and substation equipment
- Proficient in AutoCAD and power system modeling software (e.g., SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower)
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- NETA II, III, or IV certification preferred
- EIT or PE license preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external teams
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers
- Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Up to 20% travel required, including occasional extended hours during project peaks
- Able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery - Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activity- Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
- NETA or PE licensure
- Experience creating full utility P&C engineering design packages
- Previous client-facing technical experience or field commissioning work
