Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Lake Mary, FL is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer.
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of electrical power distribution networks for Mitsubishi Power’s Gas Turbine projects. This role requires expertise in low- and medium-voltage systems and experience with equipment such as Motor Control Centers (MCCs), motors, panelboards, transformers, DC systems, variable speed drives, UPS, AC/DC rectifiers, and backup power systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer collaborates across disciplines, vendors, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant electrical system designs.
- Develop electrical systems based on Mitsubishi Power’s electrical design standards.
- Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company or customer specifications.
- Interpret and design per applicable electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical equipment into project designs.
- Prepare and review specifications for electrical components and work with vendors to integrate equipment and systems.
- Perform and review calculations for sizing breakers, overload devices, relays, cables, conduits, equipment spacing, and illumination levels.
- Generate and review electrical drawing packages, including single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.
- Develop and review wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction.
- Meet regularly with vendors to ensure compliance with technical and schedule requirements.
- Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Utilize SmartPlant Electrical, SPI, SmartPlant 3D (S3D), or similar database-driven design software for power and control system design.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report unsafe activities promptly.
- Lead junior engineers, designers, and interns, supporting their development and providing mentorship.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to meet departmental and company goals.

- Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.
- Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage design deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Travel up to 10% may be required for project or vendor support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of technical and practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, and familiarity with NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, and related standards.
- Experience with large power plant generators (150 MVA ratings and above) for gas or steam turbines is preferred.
- Knowledge or interest in computer programming languages is a plus.
- SmartPlant Electrical (preferred): expertise in report and symbol creation, filters, rules, reference data, batch operations, and data maintenance.
- SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), SmartSketch, SmartPlant 3D, Revit 3D, or comparable 3D design tools.
- AutoCAD experience preferred.
- ETAP or similar electrical analysis tools.
- Strong ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Capable of presenting information to clients, management, and other engineers effectively.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including electrical load calculations, sizing, and safety analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex engineering variables.
- Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift or move up to 10 pounds.
