Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Baton Rouge, LA
Company: JM Test Systems
Are you an experienced electrical engineer passionate about designing rugged, precision technology for demanding environments? JM Test Systems is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development of intrinsically safe digital pressure gauges and datalogging systems built for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil & gas operations.
This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role that requires deep technical expertise in sensor systems, embedded electronics, and hazardous environment compliance (e.g., Class I Div 1/2). You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust instrumentation used in hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing applications in some of the world’s toughest conditions.
What You'll Do:
•Lead full-cycle design of intrinsically safe pressure instrumentation for industrial field use
•Architect analog/digital circuits for sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, wireless comms, and low-power dataloggers
•Select and integrate transducers, MCUs, Bluetooth/BLE modules, and power systems
•Ensure all hardware meets hazardous location certifications (ATEX, IECEx, CSA, Class I Div 2)
•Collaborate with firmware, mobile, and mechanical teams to deliver seamless product integration
•Own schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium preferred), and BOM generation
•Oversee rigorous product validation—vibration, thermal, IP ratings, EMI/EMC
•Support manufacturing and field teams with troubleshooting and production test protocols
•Engage with end users and field techs to understand real-world challenges and drive product improvements
•Mentor junior engineers and lead technical design reviews
What You Bring:
•Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
•7+ years of hardware design experience, including:
•Sensor-based instrumentation or data acquisition systems
•Low-power, battery-operated embedded systems
•Design for hazardous or industrial environments
•Wireless communications (BLE, Bluetooth, Zigbee)
•Expert in PCB layout (Altium preferred), analog circuits, and digital design
•Comfortable with hands-on lab work and debugging tools (oscilloscope, signal generator, etc.)
•Experience with oil & gas field applications like hydrostatic pressure testing or line integrity verification
Preferred Experience:
•Familiarity with ATEX/IECEx/CSA/UL certification processes
•Instrumentation design for upstream/midstream operations (e.g., wellhead monitoring, pipeline testing)
•Datalogging or field reporting systems integrated with SCADA or mobile platforms
•Design of IP67+ enclosures or ruggedized systems for extreme environments
