The Senior Data Architect plays a pivotal role in shaping ATCO’s enterprise data strategy. This role is responsible for designing scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures that support business intelligence, analytics, and operational needs. The architect will lead the implementation of cloud-native solutions using Microsoft Azure and Databricks, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity standards.
- Lead the design of future-state of the Enterprise Data Intelligence platform architecture and identify constraints in current ecosystems
- Develop multi-year roadmaps to modernize legacy systems, enable self-serve analytics, and scale reporting & AI/ML use cases
- Conduct architecture assessments and reviews to ensure alignment with business goals and ATCO’s enterprise data and analytics strategy
- Collaborate with the Applications team and Solution Architecture team to analyze, identify, design and implement processes for sourcing data in a flexible and scalable manner
- Create, own and maintain technical documentation such as HL Architectural Design, technical designs, standards, guidelines, frameworks and best practices.
- Define and provide consistent direction and governance of the architectural capabilities and frameworks across the domain work streams such as model principles, standardization, retention, flow, lineage and transformation, master data management, metadata management, quality and remediation.
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of the Business Intelligence Platform
- Own the data governance meta-model and contribute to the development of data governance operating models
- Provide architectural guidance across application groups and third-party vendors.
- Champion data quality and effective use of available information
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency
- Ensure compliance with ATCO’s cybersecurity and privacy standards
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, promoting a data-first culture and enabling data-driven decision-making
- Create business-oriented presentations to lead discussions with business and technology owners
- Provide architectural oversight for strategic initiatives, including analytics platform modernization and data integration projects
- Support the design and build phases of key projects, ensuring continuity in data architecture and analytics deliverables
- Provide technical support and mentorship to analysts and engineers
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Software Architecture
- 8+ years of demonstrable data platform architecture- Proven success designing and executing enterprise-level data strategies and deploying scalable architecture across diverse environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of data modeling, metadata management, data governance, data quality, and security frameworks
- Proficient in event-driven architecture, data Lakehouse concepts, data products, and self-serve analytics environments
- Well-versed in large-scale infrastructure-as-a-service platforms, Databricks, and Microsoft Azure
- Strong understanding of cloud security, performance tuning, and cost optimization
- Strong leadership capabilities complemented by effective communication and stakeholder management skills
- Skilled at translating complex technical concepts into actionable business value
- Able to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, methods, and solutions in the data and advanced analytics domain
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence cross-functional teams
