The Senior Commercial Asset Manager is responsible for optimizing the financial and operational performance of the Blythe Energy facility. Blythe Energy is a 493 MW, combined-cycle, natural gas-fired facility located in the city of Blythe, in Riverside County, CA. This role combines commercial leadership and financial acumen to ensure safe, efficient and profitable operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the California energy markets. This position can be remote from within California with monthly travel to the Blythe Energy facility.
- Responsible for the commercial management of the facility as the single point of contact, including formulating and implementing the daily CAISO bidding strategy with the external Scheduling Coordinator and the daily fuel and transportation strategy with the external Fuel Manager.
- Provide strategic leadership in identifying and implementing strategies to enhance the efficiency and profitability of Blythe Energy’s operations, including energy management (power and natural gas); CAISO interface/relationship-settlements; bi-lateral contracting & hedging; commodity risk management; and emissions.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis to support decision-making processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and accounting and financial reporting.
- Review and manage commercial contracts to maximize revenue and minimize costs, including capacity, energy, and commodity transactions.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with asset management, including operational, financial, and market risks.
- Monitor and analyze energy market trends, prices, and regulations to identify and capitalize on market opportunities while mitigating risks.
- Evaluate power market dynamics and their impact on Blythe’s operations, ensuring strategic alignment with market conditions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure optimal performance of Blythe Energy, including third-party service providers.
- Prepare and present regular reports on asset performance, financial metrics, and market conditions to senior management.
- Monitor, interface, and ensure compliance with all local, state, and national environmental and other regulatory requirements, including CAISO participation.
The Senior Commercial Asset Manager will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Power and will collaborate with the on-site plant leadership team and others as needed in the daily operation of the facility.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in asset management, energy trading or procurement within the energy sector in the California market, with a focus on combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power plants.
- In-depth knowledge of energy markets and regulatory environments especially in the California market.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., MS Excel, financial analysis software, procurement systems).
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $180,000 USD commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive package including short and long-term incentives, health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
