Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the water and wastewater system. This position is assigned to pay grade G13.
- Installs water meters; replaces meter boxes and lids.
- Turns water service on and off.
- Installs and repairs water and wastewater lines and mains.
- Locates, inspects, and cleans sewer manholes.
- Performs confined space entry procedures.
- Maintains the right-of-ways to ensure pipelines and manholes are free of debris.
- Installs and repairs fire hydrants.
- Operates a heavy truck to perform construction work.
- Performs cleaning of blocked sewer pipes.
- Replaces concrete sidewalks.
- Repairs water leaks.
- Establishes safe work zones, including traffic control devices; flags traffic as needed.
- Repairs landscaping.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Trains, directs, and supervises the work of assigned personnel.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.
- Operates job related tools and equipment including Vactor trucks, trailers, and front end loaders.
- Communicates with the public.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of collections equipment operation work experience or any related work field.
- NC Grade 1 Collections System Operator certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment is required.
- NC Grade 2 Collections System Operator certification preferred.
- Requires a valid State of North Carolina Class B CDL driver's license.
- NC Class B CDL driver’s license with Tanker and HazMat endorsement preferred.
- This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification.
