The Senior CEMS Technician leads by example in the field, delivering top-tier maintenance and calibration of environmental monitoring equipment while supporting the development of the technician team. You’ll act as the go-to technical resource, trainer, and quality lead to ensure consistent, high-performing service across client sites.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, field-based role and is ready to mentor others, raise standards, and solve complex technical issues with professionalism and rigor. ● Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on a variety of CEMS and process analyzers.
● Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation, PLCs, controls, and electrical/electronic systems.
● Calibrate analytical equipment in compliance with regulatory standards.
● Install and modify equipment at power generation facilities.
● Document all maintenance activities accurately, both electronically and on paper.
● Lead onboarding and field training for new technicians.
● Conduct job shadowing and field audits to ensure work quality and SOP compliance.
● Share best practices and update technical checklists, SOPs, and documentation.
● Provide coaching and performance feedback to technicians in partnership with the Service Team Lead.
● Serve as a field resource for real-time troubleshooting and guidance.
● Ensure parts and supply stock are managed and maintained.
● Monitor trends in service quality and recommend process improvements.
● Support scheduling, resource planning, and technician development.
● 10+ years experience working with CEMS and associated instrumentation.
● Completion of electronics certification (military, trade school, or associate degree).
● Strong troubleshooting and maintenance skills with PLCs, analyzers, and electrical systems.
● Experience reading schematics, P&IDs, and electrical diagrams.
● Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS (computerized maintenance management systems).
● Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, clean driving record, and ability to pass regular drug testing.
● Working knowledge of EH&S standards and environmental compliance regulations.
● Regular travel across California and occasionally neighboring states.
● Work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors, at heights exceeding 100 ft.
● Must be physically capable of lifting 75 lbs and working in tight or elevated spaces.
● Must be able to respond to rotating on-call emergency service needs (24/7).
