About Peninsula Clean Energy

Peninsula Clean Energy is the community choice energy program (known as a "CCA") for San Mateo County and portions of Merced County. Peninsula Clean Energy's customer base includes approximately 310,000 accounts, serving a population of 800,000, with a total electrical load of almost 4 million megawatt-hours.

Our mission is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by expanding access to sustainable and affordable energy solutions. This includes providing cleaner power at lower rates with virtually GHG-free power as its standard power service. We have aggressive decarbonization goals including delivering 100% renewable energy and supporting its service territory in reaching comprehensive decarbonization for transportation and buildings. Peninsula Clean Energy is making significant and growing investments to advance these objectives, providing a full spectrum of programs and pilots to serve the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Analyst, Innovation Strategy (IS) is a new position, working under the direction of the Associate Director of Innovation Strategy at Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE) and supports the initial implementation of cross-functional advanced energy initiatives across the organization. Those initiatives can include the early-stage investigation of new areas of work that PCE would like to engage in as well as the pursuit of public funding opportunities to diversify PCE’s revenue streams. The Senior Analyst is also expected to follow cutting-edge energy trends in California to identify emerging trends and investigate potential opportunities for PCE engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to support innovation and engage in emerging areas of work while supporting PCE’s mission of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

This new role will support the Associate Director of Innovation Strategy in all activities related to PCE’s early-stage investigation and initial implementation of advanced energy initiatives that require cross-departmental strategy development and project management. The Innovation Strategy department will lead the initial assessment and rollout of a new energy initiative before ensuring a smooth transition to the implementing department. This role will be responsible for providing content expertise as well as administrative support to the Department head and ensure effective and efficient cross-departmental coordination on initiatives. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, has strong attention to detail, and is able to support activities across multiple projects.

Examples of Duties

Early-Stage Innovation Projects: Support the Innovation Strategy department head in coordinating the “first 20%” of cross-functional energy initiatives, including stakeholder engagement, opportunity assessment, and internal alignment. A current example is the collaboration on front-of-the-meter distribution resources and the implementation of a new Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).
Project Management: Develop and manage workplans, timelines, and resource needs to successfully launch emerging initiatives prior to transition to implementation teams.
Cross-Departmental Coordination: Facilitate collaboration among PCE departments to ensure alignment on emergent opportunities. Identify roles and responsibilities for cross-departmental participation in new initiatives.
Public Funding and Revenue Diversification: Identify and assess public funding opportunities to support advanced energy initiatives and diversify revenue streams. Support funding applications both as a subject matter expert (SME) and as the administrative lead. If funding is won, establish processes and procedures to ensure a smooth transition of the project to the implementing team(s).
Emerging Trends and Energy Expertise: Monitor and analyze trends in the California energy landscape, with a focus on distributed energy resources (DERs), grid-edge technologies, and equitable energy access. Grow into an SME for PCE’s regulatory and legislative teams.
Strategic Analysis and Reporting: Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to inform strategic decisions related to emerging energy opportunities. Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and internal reports for executive management, board members, and external stakeholders under the direction of the Department head.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, public agencies, regulators, and vendors.
Departmental Development: Contribute to the ongoing development of the IS Department’s strategy, processes, and performance metrics.
Perform other duties as assigned.
