Reading Anthracite Company is seeking an accounting-system-focused, hands-on Senior Accountant with strong experience in data integrity and maintenance to join our growing accounting and finance team. This is a fast-paced role that is designed for an accounting professional who thrives in system-driven financial data, in a high-volume, transactionally complex environment. As Senior Accountant, you’ll be a critical business partner, and go-to person for all system-driven financial reports and financial statement preparation. The main goals of the position is the accuracy, integrity, and insightfulness of the financial reporting system, to help drive meaningful and reliable financial reports for executive management, operations, and sales. Beyond data integrity, this position will be in charge of multiple financial statements (including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements), ad-hoc reporting, as well as a ground-up redesign of existing reports to better serve the needs of the company. The ideal candidate has a strong desire to leverage accounting systems, data bases, and other data driven systems to efficiently and effectively streamline current processes, to deliver accurate, timely, reliable, and relevant reports, to drive better business decisions.
- Manage month-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
- Oversee all account reconciliations, including AR, AP, inventory, accruals, prepaids, capitalized mine development, reclamation reserves, intercompany balances, and sales
- Support strategic decision making by preparing monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc inventory, expense, sales, and other reports
- Implement and improve financial controls to ensure data integrity and accuracy
- Maintain the accounting system, as well as databases and other transaction systems
- Ensure accurate transactional data exchanges between systems, and investigate all differences
- Work directly with management to determine proper accounting of continuous new and complex business transactions
- Ensure compliance with income tax basis as well as GAAP reporting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role within a corporate finance environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management practices.
- Inventory and/or manufacturing experience heavily encouraged
- A desire to understand and become the subject matter expert of the accounting system and any supporting financial systems
- Hands-on experience with heavy transactional data environments
- 5-7 years of accounting systems heavy accounting experience
- 1-3 years of supervisory roles preferred
- Strong communication skills for collaboration across departments and presenting financial information clearly.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, V-Lookups, etc
