ROLE:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for compilation, analysis, interpretation, and summarizing of financial data used in financial statements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare monthly financial statements including consolidations, supporting schedules and journal entries.
- Prepare financial and variance analysis on monthly and quarterly data.
- Oversee chart of accounts, track and monitor financial information.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information and performing variance analysis.
- Assist with monthly management reporting, analyzing trends and actual results vs. budget and forecasts.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Support month-end and year-end close process, including assistance with external audits.
- Monitor and make recommendations on potential improvements to internal financial controls and processes to increase efficiency.
- Ensure corporate accounting and tax requirements are delivered.
- Ensure accurate, timely and consistent flow of information between partners.
- Assist with cash management and bank covenant requirements.
Note: In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Commerce degree or related field is required.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) Designation
- Minimum of five years of experience as an Accountant or similar position, preferably in the construction industry.
- Two or more years of post-designation experience with accounting reporting experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative when there is limited structure or direction.
- Critical thinking, logical analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Understanding of the pipeline construction industry is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent position based at our Calgary head office with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days. Extended work hours may be required to meet fixed reporting deadlines.
