The SCADA Automation Engineering Manager leads a team of SCADA Automation Engineers and is responsible for overseeing our SCADA engineering and technical implementation activities, with a particular focus on complex metering and SCADA systems automation projects.
This role requires cross-functional collaboration with our Engineering Design, Technology & Development, and Utility Technician teams.
The SCADA Automation Engineering team is responsible for automating real-time Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) and computer systems at electric power generation plants, including utility-scale solar power, and battery energy storage systems.
Typical devices include RTUs, PLCs, SCADA systems, Plant Control Systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and electric power meters.
An expert understanding of complex SCADA and control systems is required to lead and design end-to-end automation tools to exchange data with a variety of devices and systems.
The candidate will also have demonstrated success in managing a team of employees and overseeing an extensive portfolio of large, medium, and small projects.
- Establish, implement, and manage methods and standards for the SCADA Automation Engineering team
- Manage the design, installation, configuration, and commissioning of SCADA systems.
- Efficiently manage the SCADA department’s project expense/labor budgets, staff utilization, milestone dates aligned with the project schedule, and project scope.
- Continuously assess the SCADA Automation Engineering team’s skillsets, knowledge, and develop a training plan and curriculum to maximize their potential for growth with Trimark.
- Provide leadership and training to the SCADA Automation Engineering Department to maintain SCADA best practices and Trimark standards.
- Expert-level understanding of SCADA and Control System factory and site acceptance testing and documentation.
- Advanced knowledge of Power Systems, Single/Three Line diagrams, complex metering schemes, and typical power and energy-related data point knowledge.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or related field preferred.- 10+ years of professional experience as a SCADA Automation Engineer.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible relevant supervisory work experience in engineering of power systems, including experience managing large projects and leading a group of employees.
- High proficiency in project and resource management.
- Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage project budgets and resources effectively.
Employee may be required to sit for long periods of time using a keyboard and monitor display, travel to other locations, lift up to 20lbs, and push/pull up to 50lbs. Must be able to organize and prioritize work in accordance with deadlines, adapt behavior and work methods in response to changing conditions or challenges. Employee will be involved with sustained activity required for analysis, reasoning, and problem solving. Must be able to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships, recognize emotionally charged issues and respond appropriately, act with professionalism, and work both independently and collaboratively. Must be able to proactively encourage a work environment that encourages innovation and creative solutions and be able to develop effective working relationships with all levels of the company and outside partners.
The employee will primarily work in a climate-controlled office with occasional fluctuations in temperature. The employee will work at an assigned desk under artificial lighting. The employee may occasionally attend meetings and/or training outside of their assigned workstation. They may occasionally perform work remotely in the environment of their choosing. Employee may be required to perform some travel.
