Job Description:
General Objectives:
Reporting to the Safety, Health and Security Manager, the Safety Systems Specialist is responsible to provide support for site safety systems, including IsoMetrix, the integrated management system (IMS), worker’s compensation, and occupational health testing to the departments and personnel at the Marigold Mine. The Safety Systems Specialist will typically work four consecutive ten-hour day shifts which may include occasional weekends, holidays, night shifts, and on-call responsibilities.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of the Safety Systems Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
•Be a safety and health leader.
•Responsible for quality controlling data entry into the IsoMetrix system, training around the system, and reporting out of the system.
•Be the resident subject matter expert on worker’s compensation, including transporting and supporting employees with worker’s compensation case management needs and questions.
•Assist in organizing and running audits and assessments, both internal and external in nature, including training, supporting, and action planning and tracking.
•Assist in providing respirator medical clearances, respirator fit testing, and audiometric testing
•Complete compliance reporting and internal reporting.
•Manage document control for the department and assist the departments in document control for safety and health-related documentation.
•Attend site-wide departmental safety meetings providing employees with updates of company health and safety activities.
•Instruct MSHA safety and health training.
•Support the site in contractor health and safety compliance and regulatory needs.
•Participate in regulatory compliance and internal safety inspections.
•Participate in safety and health risk assessments.
•Participate in incident investigations.
•Must be available for call out when needed.
•Any other job duties that may be required.
Required Skills:
•Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
•Strong attention to detail for compliance and site reporting
•Comfortable giving presentations and speaking to large groups.
•Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies.
•Ability to provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent.
•Ability to interaction with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution.
Preferred Experience:
•At least 2 years of surface mining experience
•Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certification
•Certified MSHA instructor (IS designation)
•In depth experience with MSHA regulatory requirements
•Experience working with electronic databases and developing reports
