Summary

Balfour Beatty Construction is seeking a Safety Health & Environmental Manager for our Hermiston team. This position serves as the primary onsite safety, health, and environmental support for a construction project. Also acts as the liaison between the jobsite and the Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager, ensuring all safety standard operating procedures are followed on the jobsite. Ensures all administrative needs and documentation duties for company safety programs are addressed.


Essential Functions

Organizes and administers Safety, Health, and Environmental records and reports.
Trains employees regarding company safety policies and hazards.
Inventories safety, first aid and fire prevention equipment, ensure it stays in good condition.
Makes daily inspections of the job site. Reports unsafe acts or conditions, intervenes when necessary, and reports any unsafe acts to the Superintendent or Project Manager, and Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager.
Coordinates all Safety, Health, and Environmental efforts on the project with the Project Manager, Superintendent(s), and Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager.
Participates in, and at times conducts weekly safety meetings with trades and staff. Participates in toolbox meetings with employees, as well as the maintenance of attendance sheets.
Assists in investigating all accidents and incidents, including developing Root Cause Analysis and prevention recommendations.
Notifies the Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager immediately when an OSHA inspector or any other federal or state representative arrives. Participates in inspections made by OSHA inspectors or other federal or state representatives. Sees that any violations are corrected immediately.
Posts/inspects warning notices in all hazardous areas and enforces company and client rules and regulations.
Provides first aid services, when/if necessary.
Act as primary initial contact for any site incidents when/if necessary.
Perform or assist in safety related administrative functions and day-to-day field supervision related to safety.
Review and assist in development of company site safety plans for individual project sites. This will include reviewing trade-specific safety plans.
Review of task-specific documentation such as Job Hazard Analyses, Pre-Task Plans, Hot Work Permits, etc.


Promote Customer Relations

Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.
Actively participates in industry, client and community relations to enhance company image.

Participates in company training programs and commits to self-development.
Remains current with new developments in OSHA regulations and company safety policies and engages with the Senior Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager and Site Management to assist in maintaining current and compliant safety policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

The majority of work is completed on job sites in an office trailer. Due to daily condition changes on construction projects, when employees are outside of the office trailer or structure, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
Duties will be performed both indoors and outdoors and conditions will vary seasonally.
The project team and/or team member may need to travel to assist with other projects in multiple geographic locations, if necessary.


Required


Education, Experience and Knowledge

2 to 4 years of experience, preferably including the construction industry.
Completion of OSHA 30 training.
Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity, the years of experience may vary but must have experience with safety and environmental regulations and ensuring compliance.
Demonstrates a commitment to safety, for staff, trades, subcontractors, and all those associated with our projects.
Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups of workers, staff, and client representatives.
Demonstrates accurate record keeping skills.
Demonstrates solid customer service skills and verbal/written skills.
Demonstrates the ability to be a team player and function in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Demonstrates the ability to mentor and train others.
Demonstrates proficiency using a computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
Demonstrates proficiency using online project management tools, such as PROCORE.
Must be willing to maintain a varying schedule, in which there would be some early start times or late/early evenings.


Preferred

B.S. in Safety & Environmental Health or related field.
4 to 8 years of experience, preferably including the construction industry.
Experience with safety relating to tilt-up construction.
Comfortable sharing ideas, suggestions, and providing input to the project team regarding safety, environmental, security, and other related subjects.
