Strathcona is presently seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineer to join our Cold Lake team in Calgary. Reporting to the Cold Lake Thermal Reservoir Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a technical, multidisciplinary team and will play a key role in the subsurface reservoir engineering, well planning and well forecasting, and operating strategies for Cold Lake thermal assets. The candidate will be accountable for all aspects of reservoir engineering to ensure the asset is exploited and developed in the most optimal manner and will focus on optimizing the company’s resource through the evaluation of future SAGD well pair plans.
Essential Functions:
•Support development of Strathcona’s in-situ bitumen assets
•Lead activities evaluating field development strategies, reservoir management plans, propose strategies and opportunities to sustain and improve reservoir performance
•Utilize analogues, analytical, and simulation techniques to generate medium and long-term production forecasts for wells, pads, and assets
•Support any regulatory applications or filings as needed
•Ensure best practices and accurate representation of subsurface data and inputs associated to thermal reservoir modelling are followed including suitable incorporation of geological models
•Responsible for developing and implementing reservoir operating strategies; propose and evaluate steam and NCGI allocation strategies for production optimization, pressure management, monitor KPIs, and interface with subsurface team to maximize asset value
•Identify and support well completion strategies and designs (steam splitters, tubing cuts, FCDs, artificial lift, etc.)
•Support well start-up, ramp down, and late-life well strategies
•Communicate effectively with key stakeholders and establish relationships with Production, Operations, Geosciences and Development teams
Qualifications Include:
Skills and Knowledge:
•5-10 years of related industry experience directly involved with reservoir engineering aspects of thermal projects, preferably SAGD
•Goal-oriented and capable of meeting aggressive deadlines in a collaborative environment
•Must have a passion and drive to take ownership of projects from start to finish
•Excellent analytical, integration and project management capabilities
•Demonstrated experience in SAGD surveillance, field development planning and forecasting
•Python coding skill is an asset
•Familiarity with thermal reservoir simulation (CMG Suite)
•Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
•Must possess strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Tableau, Spotfire etc.)
Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or relevant field
•Must be registered as a Professional Engineer, or eligible for membership with APEGA
•Must be legally authorized to work full-time in Canada without restrictions
