Position Summary:
Reporting to the Laboratory Services Lead, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting day to day analytical testing requirements for the safe operations of the Sturgeon Refinery. Typical sampling testing includes in-process sample testing, finished product certifications and utility water testing. The Lab infrastructure, analytical instruments, testing procedures and protocols are managed by NWR. This position is expected to work either a day or afternoon shift.

Responsibilities:
- Executing day to day laboratory analysis using approved SOPS;
- Timely reporting of analytical data using LIMS;
- Maintain test equipment and conduct scheduled maintenance and calibrations on test equipment;
- Sample cylinder maintenance;
- Verifying instrument performance through control charting prior to reporting;
- Cleaning sample bottles at the bottle washer following SOP;
- Proper Disposal of samples and reagents;
- Laboratory housekeeping;
- Change gas cylinders and maintain consumables as required by the lab;
- Demonstrate commitment to safety & quality in the lab;
- All other duties as assigned.
- Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR’s Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture;
- Minimum 3 years of laboratory experience preferably in industrial setting with the Oil & Gas Industry;
- Technical school diploma (NAIT/SAIT) or Bachelors degree in chemistry;
- Knowledge of ASTM procedures related to hydrocarbon testing, ISO 17025 and SQC/Control charting procedures;
- Knowledge and working ability within LMS;
- Ability to work well within a group of technologists;
- Proficient in using various types of computer software (MS office as well as various instrument acquisition software);
- Hands on experience on following analytical instruments (Preferred)
- Gas Chromatography – Simulated Distillations, Refinery gas analysis
- ICP – OES – Testing on aqueous and hydrocarbon samples
- Elemental analyzer for S&N – Mitsubishi or Antek models
- Ion Chromatograph – Cation & anion modules
- Karl-Fisher and auto titrators - Mettler
