Job Summary
The primary responsibility of the Rail Superintendent is to coordinate and oversee operations at the Rail Yards assigned. This position will be responsible for multiple Rail Yards in North TX locations leading and supervising approximately 30+ employees.
Essential responsibilities
•Oversee and ensure that all preventative and routine maintenance on mobile and plant equipment is complete
•Ensure that staff performs daily pre/post-shift inspections on equipment and maintains maintenance log.
•Promote safety upsteam activities and create plans to implement suggestions that are valuable
•Demonstrate a positive, upbeat attitude and energy level towards teammates, peers, and customers.
•Ensure that staff maintains good housekeeping in areas of responsibility.
•Exemplifies MM safety values, drives culture forward through language and training
•Oversees and coordinates all aggregates rail transfers and internal/external customer deliveries to maximize customer service and minimize cost
•Acts as liaison between logistics and sales personnel
•Builds relationships with company employees, vendors, and internal and external customers to ensure an efficiently functioning department
•Identifies opportunities to improve rail loading and unloading productivity
•Support optimization of private/dedicated rail fleet to reduce/contain freight costs, working with counterparts in other districts to best utilize rail fleet
•Executes strategies to enhance regional logistics customer service and on-time delivery performance
•Works with Accounting, as needed, to verify accuracy of freight billing and reconciliation
•Manages and audits freight rates and mileages
•Manages product inventory and monthly drone survey reconciliation
•Supports direct supervisor on contract negotiation with rail carriers
•Manages information within the transportation management system
•Assists in process/tools/training implementation
•Contribute to reporting needs as directed by management
•Trains employees as needed
•Ensures compliance with regulatory and company work rules and procedures including compliance requirements
•Other duties as assigned
Preferred Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree preferred
•2-3+ years of leadership experience preferably in similar field ( Aggregates , Rail )
•Background in Rail & Truck
•JDE experience preferred
•Proficient in Microsoft products
•Ability to travel during the day and overnight if needed
•Able to physically perform the essential functions for this job
•Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
•Proven customer service skills and logistics focus, demonstrated capacity to develop relationships, resolve issues, and negotiate as required
Physical requirements
•Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner. This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and hearing protection.
•Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 100 ft. and work at this height.
•Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer and other equipment as required.
•Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment.
•Lift up to 50 lbs. to waist level and carry 20 yards.
•Ability to use hand tools such as grease guns, shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
•Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
•Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions heat, cold, wet, humid, dry and/or dusty conditions).
•Exposure to cement, clay, limestone, shale, and other raw materials and various chemicals, solvents and lubricants.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a salaried, full-time regular position. May require long hours and occasional weekend work.
TRAVEL
Travel between plants, and District office, will be required on a regular basis. Occasional out-of-area and overnight travel will be expected for training and development.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Majority of time will be outside and may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
