GENERAL SUMMARY

This position provides oversight responsibility and technical expertise for the Energy Northwest program for effective disposal of radioactive waste and shipment of radioactive material. This position works under minimum supervision and provides leadership and technical expertise for the development and implementation of the radioactive material and radioactive waste Process Control Program. Lead person/ technical advisor on internal and cross disciplinary projects regarding Rad Waste. Prepares radwaste disposal and radioactive material transport related regulatory reports, interprets requirements, comments on rule-making documents and interfaces with outside regulatory and industry bodies. Additional duties include training, advising, monitoring, trending and responding to adverse conditions in plant chemistry and equipment. Support the Columbia Generating Station Emergency Plan by performing drill and exercise, on call, training, and qualification activities when required.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsible for development and implementation of the radwaste Process Control Program and quality assurance provisions associated with radioactive material transport and radioactive waste disposal to meet 10CFR20, 10CFR61, 10CFR71, 49CFR100-397 (DOT) regulations and Washington Administrative Codes (WAC). Includes ensuring compliance with these regulations, which govern radioactive material sampling, classification, characterization, packaging, transport, documentation, disposal and associated activities.

Responsible for development and implementation of the waste stream sampling, analysis, characterization, reporting and trending program to comply with 10CFR61 and associated regulatory requirements and guidance.

Responsible for selection and implementation of radioactive material shipping, disposal and associated software programs, bases and validations, which meet applicable regulatory requirements.

Regulatory document maintenance responsibilities include generation, analysis, review and reporting of data to meet required deadlines and requirements. Documents include 10CFR71.95 reports, Regulatory Guide 1.21 reports, radioactive material and waste shipment documentation packages and associated certificates, permits, manuals, licenses and other documentation demonstrating compliance.

Develop and maintain applicable radwaste processing, transportation and disposal procedures, FSAR sections, and other related Licensing Bases documents in compliance with regulations and develop, review or approve associated training.

Develop Energy Northwest positions and provide comments on new regulations involving radioactive material and radwaste transportation and disposal. Provide technical expertise and guidance to management regarding evolving regulatory changes and industry practices or standards that create risks or benefits to Energy Northwest.

Function as primary contact and technical representative for vendor radwaste processing, transportation, disposal and associated supporting contracts and procurements.

Maintain required certifications and qualifications for assigned areas of responsibility and emergency response.

Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to identify and resolve chemistry-related system problems and adverse trends, recommend solutions, and track resolution progress.

Other assigned duties in support of Chemistry needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Radwaste & Transportation Specialist Lead

Requires Bachelor’s degree in a related science from an accredited college or university and ten years of experience in a nuclear field with six years direct Radiological Waste Transportation, shipping, and disposal experience;

Additional experience in Radiological Waste Transportation, shipping, and disposal may count in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree on a one-to-one basis. An Associate’s degree in a related science may count toward two years of experience.

A High School Diploma/GED is required.

Radwaste & Transportation Specialist III

Requires Bachelor’s degree in a related science from an accredited college or university and six years of experience in a nuclear field with four years direct Radiological Waste Transportation, shipping, and disposal experience;

Additional experience in Radiological Waste Transportation, shipping, and disposal may count in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree on a one-to-one basis. An Associate’s degree in a related science may count toward two years of experience.

A High School Diploma/GED is required.

Pay Range:

Radwaste & Transportation Specialist Lead Salary: $119,107 - $178,661

Radwaste & Transportation Specialist III Salary: $103,563 - $155,345

Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

Offers will be negotiated based on each candidate's qualifications.

Incentive Compensation

This role is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan. Incentives are earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
