Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Radiological Protection Technician located at Cooper Nuclear Stationin Brownville, Nebraska. Position closes September 4, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

Position Summary

This position's primary responsibilities are to perform calibrations as well as preventative and corrective maintenance on Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) radiation protection surveillance and monitoring instrumentation. Individual will handle radioactive sources and provide self-monitoring. Individual will utilize Radiological Protection (RP) instrumentation to assist in Radiation Protection Technician duties as assigned.

This position will be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. When assignment to one of these positions occurs, a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency.

Education, Training and Experience

Twelve months experience as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N18.1-1971 qualified RP Technician, six months of which is at CNS.

OR

Twelve months experience as an ANSI N18.1-1971 qualified RP Technician, six months of which is in RP instruments or a related field.

Must be able to qualify to the specific employee training plan and progression plan developed for this position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This position requires the following Essential Duties:

Perform calibration, testing, and repair of radiation detection and sampling equipment.

Maintain RP surveillance equipment operable by performing timely troubleshooting and maintenance.

Document and maintain accurate records of instrumentation calibration and maintenance.

Continue to enhance and improve the RP instrumentation program through industry benchmarking and research initiatives.

Write, review, and revise RP instrumentation procedures and lesson plans.

Use various vendor specific software as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other general software products.

Support the RP operations program, and as necessary the ERO, through the performance of radiation protection surveys and job coverage.

Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

Pay Grade - 14 Hourly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $46.03 - $58.69

Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
