EDM is seeking an Inspection Technician that would perform computer-based “virtual (aka desktop) inspections” of electric transmission and/or distribution assets and may include field assessments, observations and inspections of utility infrastructure. The inspector is responsible for identifying all relevant defects on the assets assigned for inspection as well as on the adjacent right-of-way (ROW). Items found in each inspection will be logged through a defined workflow into specialized computer software or field forms. Training on the technical aspects of using the software/forms, and on identification of utility infrastructure defects will be provided.
- View high-resolution aerial photographs of transmission and/or distribution assets and ROW
- Collect asset information, including defects, using computer software
- Collaborate with other inspection team members via computer instant messaging, email, and screen-sharing
- Collaborate with supervisors over instant messaging and email for work assignments and quality-control
- Support electric transmission and distribution construction inspections and observations
- Conduct field inspections, assessments, and audits
- Communicate with clients, contractors, landowners, and the public
- Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience and knowledge required in the electric transmission and distribution arena to include:
- Asset terminology
- Operations and maintenance
- Defect types and severity ratings
- Knowledge of transmission and distribution infrastructure component types
- Lineworker and/or transmission/distribution maintenance field experience preferred. Alternatively, civil/electrical/mechanical engineering background, with electric utility experience or other experience or education related to electric utilities, structure inspection, field surveys, or artificial intelligence

This role operates in a professional office environment as well as in the field. The employee must be able to sit for long periods of time and have sufficient physical ability and mobility to travel and work alone in outdoor field environments including those in remote locations as well as urban/city environments. Field work may include walking/hiking three or more miles a day on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. This role can include exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions, exposure to hazardous traffic conditions, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light to moderate weights up to 50 pounds as well as operating assigned equipment and vehicles. Employee must have the ability to verbally communicate to convey and exchange information and the ability to see and hear in normal range with or without correction.
