The Fabrication Shop Quality Control Inspector plays a crucial role in maintaining high-quality standards throughout the fabrication process, ensuring that products meet blueprints, specifications, and client expectations.
- Inspection: Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of raw materials, in-process components, subassemblies, and finished products, ensuring they conform to specifications and industry standards.
- Measurement and Testing: Utilize precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Log and maintain detailed records of inspections, including non-conformances, and generate accurate inspection reports.
- Communicate inspection results and potential quality issues to the production team and supervisors.
- Quality System Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to ISO standards, company policies, and customer requirements throughout the fabrication process.
- Participate in internal and external audits to maintain compliance with relevant standards.
- Problem Solving: Collaborate with production and engineering to identify the root cause of defects and recommend corrective actions to improve product quality.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to identifying areas for improvement in the fabrication processes and participating in the development and implementation of quality control procedures.- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional certifications or training in quality control preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in quality inspection, preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with metal fabrication processes and tolerances preferred.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Good working knowledge and proficiency in the use of Windows products such as Word and Excel
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects and deviations required.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments required.
- Good mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
- Welding experience preferred.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 preferred.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or statistics preferred.
The Quality Inspector will primarily work in a fabrication shop environment, involving exposure to various machinery, equipment, noise, and potential hazards. The role may also include some office-based tasks related to documentation and reporting. Safety is paramount, and the candidate must adhere to all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
