The Lansing Board of Water & Light has openings available for Project Manager III – V with our Project Engineering Department located in Lansing, MI.

Starting Salary Range:

Project Manager III - $84,700. - $102,400.

Project Manager IV - $94,000. - $114,700.

Project Manager V - $104,400. - $128,500.

Position Summary:

The Project Manager position ensures capital project delivery, using project initiating, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing process groups as defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK). As a part of the Project Management Office (PMO), this position supports delivery objectives for capital investments using leadership and strong project management discipline to manage internal and external resources through medium to large-scale utility projects for facility and distribution infrastructure.

Essential Functions:

Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary project teams through day-to-day progress, manage schedules, budgets, contracts, and costs, and ensure teams meet operational and regulatory quality requirements through project close.
Work with project engineers and subject matter experts to identify internal resource needs and allocate roles and responsibilities. Hold internal resources accountable to their direct supervisor for their role and responsibilities, and support team members when they present barriers.
Facilitate project risk planning for mitigation, reduction, avoidance, or control steps. Anticipate occurrence and execute risk plans to ensure project objectives.
With assistance evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Provide tactical support to capital procurement strategies with early planning and coordination. Facilitate RFP development, write general conditions specifications, and coordinate bidding activities. Manage resulting contracts following performance analysis, change control, work authorization, and reporting standards.
Raise stakeholder awareness of project successes and challenges. Meet reporting frequency and methods standards, highlighting deviations from baseline schedules and costs.
Coordinate project conceptual and detailed design development and design review processes, including constructability reviews and alternative sequencing analysis.
Mastery of all principal duties and responsibilities for levels 1 – 2 project managers.
Contribute to project management standardization for capital project delivery.
Comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
Performs other duties as required by supervisor.


Required: Job Specifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, business or other related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of four (4) years of project management experience in technical environments.
Leadership experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
Possess a high-level of emotional intelligence, evident in leadership, relationships, influence, decisions, political and cultural awareness, negotiation, conflict management, and mentorship.
Familiar with the principles of Project Management as defined by the PMBOK Guide, 6th Edition. Working knowledge of multiple project methodologies, E.g., waterfall, design/build, iterative.
Ability to objectively assess situations or circumstances using all the relevant information and apply experience to come to conclusions or make sound decisions.
Background demonstrating knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve critical issues and/or unique conditions.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
Predictable and reliable work schedule.
Ability to effectively work in remote and open office environments.
Must have valid Michigan driver's license with an acceptable driving record.


Preferred:

Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent project management certification or a specialized technical certification/licensing or willing to gain certification within 2 years.
Experience in electric or water production, transmission, distribution or in utility facilities
Knowledge of engineering or professional experience working with engineers
Experience managing small-sized projects ($50,000 - $5 million)
Proficient with Microsoft Office and scheduling software (Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project), and capable with eBuilder (or a similar project/construction management software).

Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Coordinate project conceptual and detailed design development and design review processes, including constructability reviews and alternative sequencing analysis. Mastery of all principal duties and responsibilities for levels 1 – 3 project managers and provide mentorship, coaching and training.
Contribute to project management standardization for capital project delivery.


Requirements:

7-10 years of project management experience in technical environments.
Leadership experience managing multiple, complex projects concurrently.


Preferred:

Experience in electric or water production, transmission, distribution or in utility facilities.
Experience managing medium-sized projects ($5 - $10 million).

Project Manager V: Starting Salary Range:

$104,400. - $128,500.

Essential Functions:

Serve as the technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area.
Mastery of all principal project management duties and responsibilities and serves as coach or mentor for all project management staff level 4 and below. May lead an entire Coaching and Mentoring initiative.
Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommends new practices or changes to project management standard practices
Ability to work effectively in remote or in-office


Requirements:

10 or more years of project management experience in technical environments.
Strong leadership experience managing multiple, complex projects concurrently.


Preferred:

10+ years’ experience with 5+ years in electric or water production, transmission, distribution or in utility facilities.
Experience managing large projects (over $10 million).

May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/ below the knee level or reach above head. On occasion, may need to use stairs.

Constantly works in a temperature-controlled office environment.
