This is a short-term position to provide Enviromental oversight during Life Extension II activities for the next 10-16 months MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES: Under general supervision, follows established environmental policies, standards, and guidelines. Provides guidance to the Manager, Environmental Quality & Projects including providing support when necessary. Manages environmental contracts for Life Extension 2. Responsible for coordinating and managing field activites, review of data and submittals of deliverables. Provides expert environmental technical support to the Environmental and Sustainability Department to support environmental programs during the Life Extension 2 Project. Develops, implements, and evaluates environmental programs and procedures. Maintains expert knowledge of existing and proposed Federal, state, and local environmental regulations and corporate policies, standards, and guidelines related to SPR operations. Responsible for interpreting environmental data, observations, and current regulations. Provides technical support with the preparation of waste-related reports, inventories, and shipping documents. Ensures subcontractors maintain compliance with applicable regulations and SPR policies by providing onsite field support during waste generation, storage, sampling, transportation and disposal activities. Provides technical support for wetlands permit applications to meet applicable federal, state (Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas), and local water quality regulations governing construction in jurisdictional wetlands. Provides technical support to the SPR environmental management system. Manages the collection and validation of data used to prepare environmental reports and data calls. Provides review and coordination on associated environmental documentation. Leads site visits and inspections as necessary to observe work to evaluate compliance with established environmental related requirements for Life Extension 2.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or a related field. Eight-Ten years of applicable experience in the environmental field. Must have a broad understanding of the sciences and regulation and statute interpretation. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, especially as they relate to presenting, supporting, or defending environmental positions. DESIRED: Master’s of science degree in environmental or related discipline. Certification or registration in an environmentally-related area is preferred. Applicable relevant professional certifications/registrations are preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: The primary job location is an office environment with periodic visits to site operational locations and surrounding natural habitat. As such, conditions range from extended periods of work on a computer, and other office equipment, operating a company motor pool vehicle on public roads, walking and climbing on site equipment, and visiting surrounding marsh, swamp and other natural environments on foot, by boat, and other vehicles. ADVERSE CONDITIONS: Extended periods at a work station in the office. Outdoor conditions in the field, including exposure to local flora and fauna and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals. HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS: Ergonomic (office) and operational site hazards (generally physical, noise, and petroleum products) and environmental (wildlife, insects, vegetation). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The job is primarily in an office environment, but dependent on need, the employee may be required to occasionally perform a range of field environmental work at and near a site or pipeline location, including work in outdoor conditions for extended periods of time.
