The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, from concept through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover. The role ensures technical excellence, compliance with standards, and alignment with project objectives, while supporting the successful delivery of safe, cost-effective, and timely projects. This is a 1 year, full time contract.
- Lead and coordinate the projects from concept through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to Operations
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and functional groups (Engineering, Project Controls, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, HSE, etc.) to ensure project scope is delivered on intent, on time, and on budget
- Manage project engineering teams, ensuring alignment with project objectives, client expectations, and corporate standards
- Oversee engineering deliverables, schedules, and budgets; proactively identify and mitigate project risks
- Provide technical expertise and decision-making support across all engineering disciplines
- Serve as the primary project contact for clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Lead the development of project strategies, execution plans, technical scopes of work, and supporting documentation (e.g., PEP, project decision records, schedules, meeting minutes)
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry codes, and company quality standards
- Chair internal and client progress meetings, ensuring effective communication, issue resolution, and alignment with project objectives
- Manage change processes, including identifying, documenting, and controlling scope changes, and communicate impacts to stakeholders
- Prepare and deliver accurate and timely progress reporting, including schedule, cost, and engineering deliverables status
- Contribute to and/or facilitate design reviews, HAZOP review, 3D model reviews, constructability assessments, and project progress meetings
- Review design standard variances, support value engineering initiatives, and secure stakeholder buy-in
- Support project close-out activities including project handover, documentation, and final reporting
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta or eligibility for registration with APEGA
- 8+ years of progressive engineering experience, with a strong background in oil & gas or industrial facilities; oil sands/SAGD project execution experience- Proven track record leading multi-discipline engineering teams on large-scale EPC/EPCM projects
- Process facility construction and/or commissioning/start-up experience; field experience considered an asset
- Strong understanding of project execution in both greenfield and brownfield environments
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, make sound decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing circumstances
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
