Position Summary:
The Project Controls Specialist is a key financial and technical contributor who supports project teams in job setup, cost analysis, earned value tracking, and forecasting. This role co-owns the Estimate at Completion (EAC) with the Project Manager and ensures that all financial reporting and cost control functions are executed accurately and on time. The ideal candidate is structured, analytical, and proactive in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
•Co-own the Estimate at Completion (EAC) with the Project Manager; ensure alignment of production data, labor costs, equipment usage, and financial forecasts.
•Lead job setup including cost code structures, budgets, and work breakdown schedules aligned to contract scope.
•Monitor actual costs vs. budget and proactively identify cost overruns, inefficiencies, and trends that impact profitability.
•Analyze labor, equipment, and subcontractor productivity and report deviations from budgeted assumptions.
•Prepare and maintain monthly forecasts and earned value reports; provide inputs to executive dashboards and Project Biweekly Reviews (PBRs).
•Support the preparation of project financial reporting packages and track cost performance KPIs throughout the project lifecycle.
•Review and validate subcontractor and vendor invoices for cost code accuracy and budget alignment.
•Collaborate with PMs and field teams to ensure timely and accurate data input into financial systems.
•Maintain documentation and version control for EACs, budget updates, and change orders.
•Drive continuous improvement in forecasting methods, EAC templates, and reporting processes.
Qualifications:
•3+ years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, or financial analysis in a construction or infrastructure setting
•Strong understanding of EAC methodology, earned value management, and construction job costing
•Experience with POC accounting highly desirable
•Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP and project management systems (e.g., Acumatica, Procore, CMiC, NetSuite, Foundation, JD Edwards)
•Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
•Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operations, accounting, and executive teams
•Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Finance, or related field
