Job Summary
The primary role of the Project Captain is to manage and lead the day-to-day operation of the mine, interacting with the mine Supervisors and mine personnel to ensure that all aspects of the underground operations are being met and optimized to achieve Company and Client objectives.
Responsibilities
- Effectively supervise and coach performance by directing and coordinating all underground operations to:
- Enhance the team’s capacity to complete internal projects, important planning and scheduling work
- Ensure daily production/development requirements
- Ensure supervisors pre-plan their day and are provided with contingencies
- Work with maintenance and engineering departments to ensure daily, weekly and monthly plans are aligned
- Comply with all prescribed legislated requirements
- Ensure complete and accurate turnover information is provided for oncoming shift
- Conduct daily reviews of safety process and standard operating procedures
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner

- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
- Ability to participate and complete incident / accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent injury and / or re-occurrence
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
- Comply with the Mine Regulation Act and Regulations clauses that apply to your work area.
- Minimum of 10 years hard rock experience with 5 years at the Supervisory level
- Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent)
- Ontario Hard Rock Underground Front Line Supervisor – Common Core (or other provincial equivalent)
- An in-depth understanding of underground mine development and planning
- An in-depth understanding of mine safety legislation and regulations
- An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards
- An in-depth understanding of underground equipment
- A comprehensive understanding of mine-site operations
- Proven ability to manage underground mine development and workforce
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
- Respectful of cultural differences
