The program manager, electric training is responsible for oversight, development and delivery of instructional activities associated with electric training, qualification and other programs in accordance with Department of Labor, Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements. The program manager, electric training provides electric technical assistance to the delivery safety committees and to the safety department as required. The position is also responsible for directing the development, tracking and reporting of the annual MidAmerican Energy Company training plan.
Directs and oversees monitoring of standards of delivery apprenticeship, step-advancements and refresher training. Assures sustainable and replicable processes and procedures are in place and used as the basis for training. Ensures programs and training comply with company policies and standards, and local, state and federal regulations and are accurate, consistent and documented according to retention criteria. (40%)
Directs the review of delivery training work processes, including supporting systems, to develop recommendations for improving process efficiency and effectiveness; where appropriate, participate in implementation of process and system improvements. (15-20%)
Direct the development, tracking and reporting of the annual MidAmerican Energy Company training plan. (5-10%)
Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the program, organization goals and objectives; and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. (5-10%)
Participates in emergency response planning, including training aspects of the work stoppage contingency plan. (5-10%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (0-5%)
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned including the following: directs and manages updates to procedures and programs; leads special projects which may require a high degree of operational knowledge and experience. (0-5%)
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Eight years of related experience, including three years in a supervisory or technical leadership role.
Experience in managing in a union environment and adhering to contractual requirements.
Knowledge of field work practices, bargaining unit agreements, company standards and policies related to electric or plant construction, operation and maintenance.
Effective interpersonal and leadership abilities with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably.
Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably in written and verbal form.
