Hillside Solutions, Soil Dynamics, and Gretna Sanitation are three intertwined companies that have been addressing the needs of sustainability within the solid waste industry since 2004. In that time, we’ve earned the trust of thousands of homes and businesses to be their preferred hauler of trash, recyclables, and compostables.
Currently, we have over 10,000 residential customers and commercial partners ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Many organizations rely upon our recycling and composting services to meet their sustainability goals.
However, as a for-profit business, there are a number of people and organizations that would prefer to partner with us, but simply can’t afford to pay anything beyond a basic landfilling service, or have the logistical support to transition to a new system.
Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, this is where the Hillside Foundation comes in.
Imagine a school in a low-income community that’s now teaching 600 students how to compost and diverting 2 tons of material from the landfill each year. Or picture a low-income community that’s given free membership to our community compost drop-off program. Or supplying clean compost to community gardens that provide organic produce to folks who can’t afford to shop at Whole Foods.
Given that it’s a new role, there’s a lot of flexibility and creativity to make this what you want. And given our history of relationships, there are plenty of opportunities to address and organizations to tap into.
This role is about strengthening our community’s circular food system and economy by making composting, finished compost, and recycling practices more accessible. Sustainability is the future, and you’ll have a foundational role in paving the way for your community.
