About the Role
Reporting to the Production Support Engineering Team Lead, the Production Support Engineer/Specialist is a key technical member of the production team. The Production Support Engineer/Specialist role is jointly responsible for daily operations technical support, operations engineering, production planning, incident investigation, and alarm management.
This is a great opportunity for a new professional chemical engineer to grow their career to the next level. The successful person has discovered their love working close to plant operations, looks for opportunities to improve production, using process engineering principles. This is not only a desk job, but also a role where your uniform at work are your coveralls and personal protective equipment (PPE) and you are spending up to 50% of your time in the plant with your operations colleagues.

You will use your expertise to:
Act as a first line of contact for Production Specialists (PS) to resolve issues that require engineering support.
Accountable for providing technical support for troubleshooting, daily optimization of facility, regulatory reporting, turnarounds, and coordination/escalation to engineering and technical team for assigned area.
Develop technical expertise across all areas of the facility and become Subject Matter Expert (SME) in assigned area (LNG trains, Common facilities)
Act as integrator across all the functions during CSU and initial start up period for identifying lessons learned, closure of short-term production threats, and big hits.
Support and participate in Operations procedure development.
Support production team by providing frontline engineering support in creating, reviewing, and authorising Safe Isolations
Support observations and audits and provide input into ESP improvement planning to continuously improve work processes.
Responsible for development of Operations incident reporting capability, investigating, lessons learnt processes within the Production team.
Develop Production Planning skill with usage of related production models/tools and databases.
Support Commissioning Start-Up (CSU) activities and function as focal point for Production related issues resolution in assigned area.
Work with Technical Asset Operations (TAO) team for ESP support and KPI/dashboard development and management.
Support Technology and Engineering with MOC development and closeout.
Participate in Process Hazard Analyses to identify and assess Process Safety threats and develop recommendations to mitigate these threats.
Contract Holder for Production Contracts (e.g. commodity chemicals, specialty chemicals, etc.)
Provide support to Brownfield Projects to ensure proper implementation and performance when integrated into existing operating units and systems.
Support Asset Management System work processes pertaining to Production (Ensure Safe Production (ESP), Forecast and Plan Production (FPP), Integrated Activities Planning, Permit to Work (PtW), Safe Isolations (SI), Management of Change (MOC), Perform Turnaround, Execute Strategic Asset Management Plan, Causal Learning)
Support continuous improvement and digitalization journey.
Maybe requested to join the Emergency response organization as member of incident command team and qualify in ICS 300/220
Maybe requested to join the Plant Abnormal Situation Response Team during off working hours
To be successful, you will have:
A chemical engineering degree or equivalent
Minimum 3-5 years relevant industry experience preferably in petro chemical or heavy industry
Registration or eligible for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC)
Demonstrated Knowledge in Hydrocarbon Processing, Utilities and Water treatment, and Process Safety, and Operations Engineering
Proven safety leadership skills, good understanding of HSSE CF/AMS requirements, track record in managing personal and process safety.
Good leadership skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.
Work together with/ align with other engineering disciplines for supporting operations shift teams.
Ability to assess process and deliver continuous improvement.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Ability to define issues, collect data and draw valid conclusions.
Strong networking and business relationship building skills is strongly desired.
Ability to keep calm under pressure, with an aptitude to for troubleshooting issues, tracking down resources, and coaching and mentoring the team.
The incumbent needs to be a positive, and open-minded person with a ‘can-do’ attitude, able to make practical ALARP decisions and deliver safe and compliant operations.

This role requires that you:

Know that this role is be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations.
Extra hours, after hours coverage and/or shiftwork may be required particularly during the CSU phase, operate phase and turnarounds
During Commissioning and start up 50hrs per week, during stable operations 40 hrs. per week.
