The Construction Support Engineer working in CB&I’s Construction Technology group provides guidance and support to projects world-wide to aid in the erection of CB&I’s product lines such as flat bottom tanks, spheres, Pressure Vessels, Low Temp and Cryogenic tanks and associated terminals, Elevated Water Towers, Egg-Shaped Digesters, Nuclear Containment Vessels, and other special structures. This unique opportunity engages the engineer in applied engineering as it relates to construction processes and practices, construction equipment, construction execution planning, crane lift planning, proprietary equipment development, fall protection and access planning, transportation planning and design. The engineer will work closely with field operations and project management as well as CB&I engineering groups to ensure safe and efficient erection practices are planned and followed. Site visits to oversee complex field operations such as tank jacking, roof lifts, (roof) air raises, large or complex crane lifts, and demolition projects may be required.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities to support global construction activities are broadly defined. The Construction Support Engineer will typically be responsible for some of the following activities:
- Formulate constructability plans for erection of standard and complex CB&I structures.
- Perform detailed lifting and rigging analysis including calculations, drawings, specifications and procedures.
- Determine ground bearing pressures on soil and design “matting” as required.
- Be able to understand and work with the interpretation of geotechnical investigation reports.
- Design lifting attachments and support elements. Perform stress checks of the component being lifted.
- Perform lifting calculations and drawings using jacking methods to lift structures.
- Design lifting devices to AISC, OSHA and ASME B30-BTH.
- Have a working understanding of ASME B30.
- Design temporary support structures.
- Design of fall protection systems and anchor points.
- Design of access equipment.
- Collaborate with drafters, modelers and detailers, as well as personnel from sales, estimating, engineering, operations and project management.
- Travel to project sites to assist in execution of tasks.
- Provide reviews of engineering designs for assessments on the constructability of the project.
- Participate in Proprietary Equipment development and improvement of erection equipment.

- BS in an Engineering related discipline from an accredited school is required.
- 2+ years of experience in a field construction environment is preferred. - 2+ years of experience with construction engineering, rigging, lift planning, etc. for heavy industry or energy related infrastructure is preferred.- EIT or working toward obtaining EIT, and then a professional engineering license is preferred.
- Professional Engineering license in at least one state is preferred.
