Founded in 1926, W.L. Walker Co., Inc. is a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturer of petroleum measurement instruments used worldwide for hydrocarbon custody transfer and inventory control. Our products—ranging from precision gauging devices to electronic sampling and temperature measurement systems—are built to the highest standards of reliability and safety.
We’re seeking a hands-on Product Development Engineer (electrical or mechanical) who enjoys taking ideas from concept to prototype to production. You’ll lead and assist with multidisciplinary design efforts, coordinate with internal engineers and external specialists, and help guide the next generation of W.L. Walker products.
You’ll work directly with the company president, who is actively involved in R&D and product design.
- Design and develop new products for hydrocarbon measurement (volume, density, temperature, and sample quality).
- Work alongside a team of three Electrical Engineers to create, test, and refine electronic systems and circuit boards, ensuring designs meet CSA/UL and intrinsic safety expectations.
- Model mechanical housings and assemblies in SolidWorks for internally developed instruments—then watch them come to life next door in our fully equipped machine shop.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and production teams to launch and sustain product lines.
- Participate in trade shows, field testing, and Oil & Gas industry meetings as needed.
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with taking models into CAD/CAM or production on CNC machines—experience with Doosan and Haas brands is a plus.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks (willing to train if not); familiarity with KiCad, PuTTY, CorelDRAW, G-code, or similar tools.
- Comfortable with 3D printing and rapid prototyping; practical shop exposure (manual/CNC) is a plus.
- Understanding of intrinsically safe/explosion-proof design or interest in learning.
- Knowledge of Oil & Gas measurement standards or prior Oil & Gas instrumentation experience is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills; ability to coordinate across disciplines and mentor junior/part-time engineers.
- Experience with documentation and product development coordination; Sage 300 for inventory/BOM updates is a plus.
- Walker pays 100% of employee premiums for health, dental, and life insurance.
- Retirement plan with company match up to 3% of eligible participant contributions.
- Competitive pay and excellent benefits.
- Flexible, family-oriented environment with professional development opportunities.
- Direct collaboration with company leadership and all other local engineers, including a senior EE consultant in Houston.
- We’re committed to developing engineers—helping you gain the skills, certifications, and project experience needed to grow into more advanced technical roles.
