THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Principal Mining Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for executing technical studies through the project development life cycle working closely with multiple disciplines to advance our portfolio of projects required for global electrification. This position requires strong technical and leadership skills. The candidate should be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment providing engineering expertise in underground and open pit operations.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide ongoing technical oversight and engagement in mining studies (Scoping, Pre-feasibility & Feasibility)

Conduct mine asset due diligence and evaluations
Conduct mine planning and design, mining method selection
Conduct mine optimization and mine economics modelling
Design mine infrastructure including ventilation, dewatering and backfill systems
Provide cost estimates (CapEx and OpEx)
Participate in equipment selection
Project and study management
Participate in due diligence and technical audits
Participate in peer reviews
Engagement with site teams on various MRMR best practices and standards
Undertake Mineral Reserve estimates using 3D computer methodologies for projects at various stages of development in accordance with international best practices
Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, community and environmental protection and takes action to ensure that unsafe practices or non-compliant behaviours do not occur
Mentor and develop staff with a focus on their long-term career objectives and operational needs
Inform, involve and engage key internal and external stakeholders appropriately
Manage contractors and sub-consultants on projects (as required)


QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Mine Engineering or related field/ licensed professional engineer
Minimum of 15 years of operational underground hard rock mining / engineering / planning experience, ideally, the successful candidate also has a strong open pit background
Familiarity with mine planning software systems such as Deswik, Minesight, Gemcom, Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan and Whittle, and capable of utilizing industry knowledge to develop mine designs and production plans
Authorization to work lawfully in USA and/or Canada without sponsorship from Ivanhoe Electric is required
Detailed knowledge of industry standards in mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation (such as JORC, CIM or SME guidelines) and compliance with public disclosure regulations
Mine Rescue experience, MSHA safety requirements, supervisory tickets/experience are an asset
Strong understanding of cost control, cost tracking and KPI metrics and utilizations
Solid background in mining methods and safe mining practices
Strong project and time management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing RFP, technical reports, and general project correspondence
Ability to lead, direct and work cooperatively
Willingness to travel
