Main Purpose: The Power Plant Engineer would support the ongoing operations and future development of Trafigura’s North American Power assets. The Power Plant Engineer would support the Power Trading team to evaluate operational activities, propose and plan debottlenecks and beneficial projects, and support Due Diligence and M+A exercises around new Power asset acquisitions.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and optimize
the performance of steam turbine units and associated systems.
- Coordinate maintenance
schedules for turbines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
- Solve mechanical and thermal issues
, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient operation.
- Coordinate with operations and safety teams
to ensure compliance with environmental and safety laws.
- Analyze performance data
to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Develop and implement procedures
for outages and equipment overhauls.
- Support outage planning
, including scope development, parts identification, and vendor coordination.
- Capital Project Coordination,
help plan and complete plant improvement projects year to year. This includes budget development and compliance.
- Strong understanding of
Power plant operating systems, Steam boilers, Steam turbines, and mechanical systems (Valves, pumps, air compressors, etc
.).
- Experience with
OEM turbine generators
(e.g., GE, Siemens,) is highly valued.
- Familiarity with
vibration analysis, control systems
, and generator diagnostics.
- Ability to use
project scheduling tools
like Primavera (P6) or MS Project.
- Bachelor’s degree in
Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering

- 5–10 years of experience in
power plant operations or maintenance

- Professional Engineer (PE) license or certifications like
Certified Plant Engineer (CPE)
are a plus.
