Mahipapa LLC is an independent power generation company that owns and operates a 7.5 MW closed loop biomass power generation facility and provides power to Kauai Island Utility Cooperative on the island of Kauai, State of Hawaii. Mahipapa’s operation includes managing and harvesting eucalyptus trees grown on Kauai, which is the sole fuel source for generating power to over 10% of homes and business on Kauai.
Mahipapa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Current, LLC, a non-regulated subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. [NYSE:HEI], a company established 2017 as part of HEI’s strategy to develop and invest in Hawaii based opportunities that serve as catalysis for a better Hawaii. Since its creation, Pacific Current has actively invested in and developed infrastructure projects in the areas of renewable energy, clean transportation and water/wastewater with the intent of being the long-term owner and operator of these projects and assets.
Power Plant Technician will be a key team member of our diverse, result-oriented team of operation and maintenance technicians who will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining power plant generation equipment to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient operation of all power plant systems. We are looking for an energetic professional who is highly organized, punctual, efficient, and is able to work collaboratively with a small team of technicians with different levels of experience and backgrounds. As the power generation facility is a 24/7 operation, this is a shift position with twelve (12) hours rotating day and night shifts, weekends and holidays included.
- Operating, monitoring, and responding to normal and abnormal operating conditions of power plant auxiliary equipment.
- Taking readings and maintaining records and logs.
- Recording equipment problems on work notifications/work order request
- Performing water analysis and proper adjustments to ensure water chemistry is adequate.
- Visually inspecting equipment to perform periodic adjustments, lubrications and performing preventative maintenance.
- Manually operating valves for proper system operations or mechanical isolation
- Manually operate 480v local disconnects for proper system operation or electrical isolation.
- Operate heavy machinery (front end loader, skid steer/bobcat, genie lift, telehandler)
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and pays attention to details.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze mechanics of various types of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with highly motivated, innovative, and result-oriented cross-functional team members.
- Must have strong skills/experience in creatively solving complex problems, developing actionable recommendations and effectively strategizing with colleagues and senior leaders.
- Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate a strong network to gain trust, respect and support from colleagues and senior leaders toward achieving organizational goals.
- Must be able to maintain an organized approach, clarity of purpose, and goal orientation in a rapidly changing environment involving multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to read and work from P&ID drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Must have effective written and oral skills.
- Professional demeanor with good judgement.
- Intense curiosity and keen desire to learn about power generation.
- Must be able to work twelve (12) hours rotating day and night shifts, weekends and holidays included.
- Must be able to work overtime as required by plant operations.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Post-secondary certificate or degree in engineering (a plus).
- Ability to operate frontloader and telehandler (a plus).
- Manual dexterity and ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
