Directly responsible for leadership and oversight of the plant operations. . Instill a culture consistence with Talen Energy values that empowers employees to excel and be their very best.. This includes budget preparation and management; establishing and measuring station operational performance objectives (consistent with Company and regulatory requirements); training, development and evaluation of management and bargaining unit personnel; initiating resolution of technical and personnel issues to attain optimum plant operations and communicating effectiveness of each of these items and any Departmental or Company initiated programs.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the plant operations team and work seamlessly with maintenance and engineering teams. This includes day to day supervision, individual coaching /development, goal setting, and performance management.
- Ensure the safety of all personnel by maintaining safety as a core value and top priority at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations; take immediate steps to resolve any issues which cause or could cause non-compliance. Be aware and informed of all limits and reporting requirements.
- Facilitates the strategic activities and initiatives for the station. Acts as the point person who coordinates the other major departments at the station to achieve an “Operation’s Led” organization.
- In the absence of the plant manager, assumes responsibilities of the Plant Manager for continuity of operation.
- During an emergency, assumes the primary command and control for all site level responses.
- Ensure that all personnel are adequately trained to perform their job duties. Develop training materials and staff the training department as needed to maintain accurate operating procedures.
- Work closely with commercial team to maximize revenue by communicating known generation risks having the units available to operate to meet the power market demand.
- Lead bargaining unit employees, ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the applicable labor agreement, instill continuous improvement.
- Responsible for O&M budget..
- Minimum of 5 years directly related experience with at least 3 years in a plant environment.
- BS/BA degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Proven ability to lead people and coach for continuous improvement
- Basic knowledge of industrial safety.
- Thorough understanding of power plant or industrial operations.
- Good grasp of steam cycle thermodynamics.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with people.
- Ability to work in pressure situations.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively set priorities
- Knowledge of power station financials and ability to develop and effectively manage budgets.
