JOB SUMMARY
The Plant Inspector is responsible to inspect, verify and confirm the construction and maintenance of both overhead and underground Hydro Ottawa plant, as well as the installation of third party plant in or on Hydro Ottawa infrastructure, conforms to Hydro Ottawa standards.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
•The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:
•Confirm all work performed is in accordance with Ontario Regulation 22/04.
•Confirm all work performed is in accordance with Hydro Ottawa approved standards.
•Confirm all contractors working for Hydro Ottawa work in accordance with the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, the Utility Work Protection Code, Hydro Ottawa Standard Work Methods, E&USA Safe Practice Guides, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Provincial Safety Construction and Industrial Regulations, Municipal By-laws or any other Provincial/Federal Regulation or Act which applies to the work at hand.
•Confirm Hydro Ottawa approved contractors have appropriate permits, work protection, Ministry of Labor notification, etc., in place and at job site and complete contractor inspection report cards at project close.
•Confirm only Hydro Ottawa approved contractors and their workers are used for working on Hydro Ottawa assets and job sites.
•Verify Hydro Ottawa assets are properly secured or supported throughout all phases of an excavation.
•Document and report any damage to Hydro Ottawa or customer owned plant.
•Provide detailed as-built mapping as required.
•Review, select and field verify proposed telecom route as required.
•Inspect and assess the condition of overhead plant such as poles, wires, transformers, insulators, cross-arms, pole grounds, etc.
•Inspect and assess the condition of underground plant such as ducts and duct structures, cable chambers, handholes, padmount transformers, ground grids, Hydro Ottawa owned vaults, cables, telecom plant, etc.
•Inspect and assess the condition of both overhead and underground plant prior to the installation of third party plant such as telecom.
•Audit third party installations on or in Hydro Ottawa infrastructures such as telecom or street-lighting.
•Ensure paperwork such as as-built drawings, store requisition sheets, time sheets, etc., are accurate and accounted for.
•Attend predesign, pre-construction and project site meetings with Design staff, Construction staff as well contracting staff and customers to assist in coordinating schedules, job flow and provide progress reports as required.
•Conduct regular audits to confirm compliance regarding vehicles, equipment, tools, safety meetings, personal protective equipment, work practices, job performance, proper tailboard record keeping, quality of work, etc.
•Verify project change requests are adhered to by contractors.
•Train new staff as required.
•Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Secondary school diploma.
•Electrical Utility trades journeyperson or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field such as cable locations, underground cable work, underground civil construction, or pole line construction.
•Certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and Confined Space Entry considered an asset.
•Knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules (by IHSA), Utility Work Protection Code Book, Hydro Ottawa Standard Work Methods, Hydro Ottawa Approved Standards considered an asset.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
•English. both oral and written
•Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
•Valid driver license - Class “G”.
•Government of Canada security clearance
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
