We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Piping Lead to oversee and coordinate piping projects and maintenance activities at our Ohio-based oil refinery. The Piping Lead will be responsible for managing field execution, ensuring code compliance, supporting turnaround and maintenance teams, and driving safe and efficient installation and repair of piping systems.
This role will serve as the primary point of contact for all piping-related work, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and productivity across daily maintenance, capital projects, and turnaround scopes.
- Lead and manage all field piping activities including fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing.
- Ensure compliance with applicable piping codes and standards (ASME B31.3, B31.1, API 570, etc.).
- Coordinate with planners, engineers, inspectors, and contractors to develop and execute piping work packages.
- Support the planning and execution of turnarounds and capital projects involving significant piping scopes.
- Provide field leadership for crews performing piping repairs, tie-ins, and new construction.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, pipe stress reports, and BOMs.
- Ensure proper materials are ordered, staged, and installed per specifications.
- Drive adherence to safety protocols and ensure work is completed without incident.
- Participate in constructability reviews and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for weld maps, inspection reports, and completion packages.- 7+ years of experience in industrial piping (fabrication, installation, or inspection), with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, materials (carbon, stainless, alloy), welding processes, and QA/QC procedures.
- Experience with refinery or petrochemical piping codes and practices.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary craft teams and interface with engineers, planners, and inspectors.
- Proficient in reading P&IDs, piping isometrics, and field sketches.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP) and construction management tools.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical trade school a plus.
- Certifications such as API 570 (Piping Inspector), AWS CWI, or NCCER Pipefitter Certification.
- Experience supporting major turnarounds or capital projects in a refinery setting.
- Working knowledge of weld inspection techniques, NDE/NDT processes, and pressure testing procedures.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent industrial safety training.
