Job Overview:
Nikkiso Energy Infrastructure & Strategic Projects (NESP) is a functional unit of Nikkiso CE&IG that develops and executes turnkey EPCM projects (> US$10 MM) globally.
NESP is seeking an experienced professional broadly versed in all mechanical design and engineering areas associated with industrial and energy infrastructure projects. Our products and solutions include:
•Natural Gas Regasification Plants/Systems
•Hydrogen & Natural Gas Liquefiers
•Merchant Air Separation Plants & Liquefiers
•On-site Gas Generation Plants
•Ammonia Refrigeration and Transfill Systems
•CO2/Carbon Capture Process Systems
•Liquid Fuel Terminals (LNG LH2 NH3)
•Balance of Plants for the above
This principal engineering position reports to the Engineering Manager. Candidate must be highly motivated to manage activities and tasks across multiple global projects from concept through start-up with a cross-functional team. The role location can be based in Houston TX or Irvine CA. Remote flexibility is available but the job holder is expected to support projects across multiple global sites.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
The job holder will be the Mechanical Design Lead and representative for mechanical engineering during all stages of design and execution. The job holder will play an active role during various stages of a project life cycle: FEED Detailed Design Fabrication Field Construction Commissioning and Start-Up Activities. Responsibilities will include managing the following activities to develop and execute full turnkey capital project solutions. Mechanical/Piping Engineering:
•As e Mechanical Design Authority the job holder establishes the design requirements and ensures that design output documentation appropriately and accurately reflects the design basis.
•Asme Subject Matter Expert the job holder leads the effort to prepare the Mechanical/Piping Engineering Package including deliverables such as:
+ Piping General Arrangement Drawings
+ Piping Design
+ Piping Material Specifications
+ Standard Piping Details
+ Pipe Support Details
+ Fabrication and Installation of Pipe-work Specification
+ Isometric (ISO) drawings
+ Assembly drawings
+ Vacuum Jacketing Piping Specification and Schedules
+ Piping Material Take-offs (MTOs)
+ Welding Specifications
+ Perform Stress Analysis
+ Stress Analysis Specification
+ Stress Critical Line List
+ Stress Sketches
+ Final Stress Report
+ Hydrostatic test diagram
+ Evaluate technical proposals from vendors/suppliers and provide recommendations.
+ Identify and manage fabrication methods manufacturing strategy and field installation implementation.
+ Conduct design reviews and implement design improvements.
+ Represent the mechanical department in HAZOPs PHAs and MOC reviews.
+ Support plant commissioning including on-site performance tests and troubleshooting
+ Complete vibration studies root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and lead investigations
Engineering Integration:
•Interface with multi-engineering disciplines (civil structural process electrical control) to provide:t
+ Design Basis
+ Responsibility Matrix
+ Plot Plans
+ 2D/3D Models
•Technical documentation including but not limited to the proposal bids start-up procedures test plans operation manuals and training materials
•Maintain the quality and integrity of the mechanical design while coordinating with other engineering disciplines and coping with project-specific constraints.
•Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability operability and maintenance.
•Participate in Constructability Reviews Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI).
•Assist with assuring compliance with the local Safety Regulatory Code.
•Assist with the development of cost estimates to support project bidding
•Provide inputs to optimize the total manufacturing costs
•Identify and mitigate technical execution and operation risks
•Provie technical liaison support to customers and/or EPC contractors.
•Contribute to Lessons Learned Reports
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
•BS in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience in the gas and process industry.
•Professional Engineer license in Mechanical Engineering is highly desired.
•Expertise in two of the following three fields is highly desired.
+ Refrigeration Systems (Cryogenics NH3 CO2)
+ Modular Process Skids (ISO)
•Advanced experience with applicable design codes (e.g. ASME ANSI ASTM API)
•Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant, SolidWorks or similar design software
•Proficiency with CAESAR II Autopipe or similar piping stress analysis software
•Working knowledge of pumps heat exchangers and turbomachinery
•Basic knowledge of air separation process systems gas process plants liquefaction plants tank farms and bulk distribution facilities
•The applicant should possess the aptitude to acquire a balanced multi-discipline understanding of Mechanical Engineering Process Systems Rotating Equipment and Process Safety disciplines.
•The applicant must communicate effectively and collaborate freely.
•Possess strong analytical and organizational skills
•Able to influence and interact effectively with cross-functional team members.
•Able to juggle several concurrent projects.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers photocopiers and smartphones.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
