Control Center Pipeline Controller


Position

This job description provides information pertaining to the Control Center Pipeline Controller Position.


Summary

A Pipeline Controller is responsible for monitoring and performing remote operations to pipelines, recognizing abnormal conditions, and taking proper actions to provide a resolution. The position provides the first line of response by accepting and directing calls and notifying clients of Emergency conditions and communicates with employees and customers at all levels as required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are essential duties and responsibilities required by the position:

- Remotely monitor operating conditions of pipelines for clients

- Perform remote operations to pipelines such as starting and shutting down pumps, opening and closing valves, and setting flow rates.

- Recognize emergency conditions and when they arise and be able to take proper actions to prevent or minimize damage to property or any persons affected by providing a timely and accurate solution

- Provide incident management and escalation; notification and communication

- Accept and direct phone calls received from the public, businesses or government agencies as a first line response center

- Notify clients of abnormal operating conditions and emergency conditions as they occur

- Maintain records and reports related to the pipeline operations and emergency situations

- Comply with Federal and State regulations as set forth by the Department of Transportation

- Log information received during shift; answers operating questions; advises supervisor of changes from normal; monitors weather conditions; notifies management of emergencies.

Education & Experience

The following background is required/preferred. Human Resources and the hiring manager will determine what qualifies as related experience or appropriate combination of education and experience.

- High school diploma required.

- Minimum 2 years of Control Room Operations, Field Pipeline Operation Facilities, Refinery, or Process Operations experience preferred.

Additional experience is preferred with the following:

- General knowledge of pipeline operations such as, pipeline startup and shutdown procedures; remote ESDs; monitoring pressures, flows, temperatures, and communications to ensure proper operations; responding to pipeline Abnormal Operating Conditions

- Working knowledge of control center environment and practices preferred.

- General understanding of control center and oil and gas industry term and definitions


Skills

The following skills are a cumulative representation of the abilities necessary to perform the job satisfactorily. Not all skills will be used regularly, though the chosen candidate will be responsible for performing all the skills at some point during their tenure with the company.

A candidate must be able to prove the following skills specific to the nature of the position:

- Must be adaptable to shift work and able to work weekends, nights, and extended hours. This is a 24 x 7 environment.

- Ability to work on a shift rotation basis.

- Must be able to meet DOT qualification criteria.

- Must be able to pass DOT random drug testing.

- Adept and comfortable with the use of computer technology and complex systems.

- PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

- Ability to define and manage emergency conditions.

- Ability to work as part of a team.

- Able to learn new information quickly.

- Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other people

- Excellent communication skills to interface with all levels of team members, clients, public and outside bodies.

- Must be customer service orientated.

- Must be able to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions.

- Strong organization and dependable time management skills.

- Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

- Perform well under pressure.

- Exhibit a great attention to detail.

- Show customer service-oriented practices, both internally and externally

- Show excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

- Exhibit excellent organizational, time management skill.

- Exhibit expertise in the various system and/or vendors for security and low voltage products

- Work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

- Exemplify the desire and drive to understand the extensive detail in each process and procedure to better support the organization.

- Work in fast paced environments.

- Present a calm demeaner under stress.

- Read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and emails.

- Write correspondence with an understanding of proper email etiquette.

- Communicate information effectively in writing form and by phone.


Hours

This position requires the ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts.

Work is occasionally required in outdoor environments for this position.

The work is primarily performed within an office environment, which can include exposure to:

- Florescent lighting conditions

- Extended periods of sitting

- Exposure to blue light

- Extended periods at Console, including computer use

- Shared office space

Due to the nature of this position, the candidate might be required to spend extensive time:

- Sitting

- Using digital devices including computers

- Viewing computer screens in various lighting arrangements

- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb to access locations such as in closets or under desk


Reporting

This position reports to the Control Center Director and Control Center Supervisors.


Supervisory


This position has no reports.

Employment is contingent upon a successful background check and drug screen.
