Permit Coordinator

The Permit Coordinator plays a crucial role in construction projects at Mears Broadband. The FCC acts as a liaison between the field and project teams to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient project execution. They coordinate resources, manage documentation, and facilitate communication to support construction crews and project managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

- Ensure that all construction operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications

- Ensure all employees working on the project are working safely and productively

- Provide OJT training on construction practices and methods

- Assign daily production to in-house and subcontract laborers and crews

- Requisition, assign and track materials needed for the daily operations

- Perform audits of construction operations to ensure work is being completed in compliance with project specifications and monitor safe work practices

- Resolve complaints with property owners in areas where our personnel are working

- All other duties assigned


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

- Technical Knowledge: Understanding construction drawings, specifications, and techniques in the installation of Coax and Fiber Optic networks

- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with various stakeholders.

- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain accurate records.

- Problem-Solving Abilities: Identifying and resolving issues efficiently and effectively.

- Safety Awareness: Thorough understanding of OSHA safety regulations and Mears Broadband procedures.

- Experience: This position may require prior experience in “Telecommunications” construction, project coordination, or a related field.

- Conduct site surveys for new builds and network expansions, gathering detailed information on existing infrastructure and environmental factors.

- Use specialized tools like GPS units, laser rangefinders, and measuring wheels to collect accurate measurements of distance, elevation, and equipment placement.

- Document findings with detailed field notes, sketches, and photos. This may involve capturing entry points, cable paths, and pole data.

- Identify potential obstacles, such as poor terrain, competing utilities, or complex building layouts in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) and multi-tenant commercial buildings

- Create reports and schematics to present findings to design engineers and project teams. This often involves using software like GIS or drafting tools to create "redline" documents.

- Assess regulatory requirements, such as ensuring proper clearance from power lines, and verify information for permitting and right-of-way access.

- Coordinate with stakeholders, including property owners, building managers, and other utility companies to gain access to sites and gather information.

- Adhere to safety regulations and protocols, such as OSHA standards, during all fieldwork.

- Work independently and manage a daily travel schedule to project sites, which can include both urban and rural areas and vary across different weather conditions.

- Driver’s license.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.

- Physical activity for the role includes:

- - Exposure to variable weather conditions, including hot and cold weather

- Sitting, standing, and walking for long periods, on variable terrain

- Lift up to 50 lbs

- Manual dexterity for computer and other small equipment use

- Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
